The search threw up about two dozen ATP threads, most event-specific, so I thought a general rolling thread on ATP-related stuff would be good.
I have just bought tickets for the Slayer day of I'll Be Your Mirror event in May, Alexandra Palace, London, and I'm pretty excited! Line up:

Anyone else going?

I'm heading down from Glasgow with a few people.
Particularly excited for Codeine.

They're playing on the Mogwai day, aren't they. I might see if my funds will stretch to that too- I'd really like to see Harvey Milk, amongst other bands playing on that day.

Id totally forgot about this till today and seeing as you can see ally pally from the top of my street it would a shame not to show my face. Has there been a timetable released? Pretty skint so would hate to drop £60 on a day ticket and be faced with a load of unpleasant decisions.

ATP moves back to Camber Sands for this December's The National curated event. Relationship with Butlins Minehead is over.

Camber Sands is (was? :( ) replete with terrifying ridiculous murals. They better not have ruined its charming shittiness too much with the refurbishment!
― Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 6 June 2012 15:10 (11 months ago) Permalink
Kind of pissed about this because Minehead is an hour's drive and Camber Sands is five hours, but I appreciate that I'm in a massive minority here compared to all the London kids. We pondered getting a refund but I think we'll still go.

Start saving for electricity coupons now, I remember the Slint ATP (which was the first week of February?) was absolutely freezing there.
Nick, if you were in a 2 bed then there aren't any at Camber from memory.

Anyway, I've not been commenting on the topic for fear of people accusing me of snark but the whole weekend has been a weird one for ATP.
The story first broke on Drowned In Sound, as far as I can tell and when one of the posters there emailed Butlins they responded with the following mail:
Jamie has since posted on that thread that Butlins are lying but has not (as yet) offered any proof of that.
ATP didn't respond to anybody at the weekend, and with good reason because they were running their stage at Primavera. Where the Melvins didn't play (for reasons as yet unknown) and neither did Sleep, apparently because Matt Pike had had a brain aneurysm. Which was odd, because they played the Scion festival in Tampa, Florida the very next day. Presumably meaning they had always been double booked.
It all smacks that David Yow's interview last year may well have been true - that foreign events are draining their funds and they're struggling to pay the bills. I feel really sorry for the guys, they've put on a large number of things over the years I've enjoyed immensely and it's sad it's ending this way (if it is).

hmmm that doesn't sound too good. I have always found Barry Hogan pretty irksome (e.g. awful blurbs in the ATP programmes) but assumed he knew what he was doing business-wise, since ATP kept on putting on good events.
Re. Camber Sands murals: my favourites were the mis-shapen, faces like bags of spanners Mulder & Scully above one of the bars. They're drinking bottles of Stella or similar above the motto "The Truth is Out There".
― Arvo Pärt Chimp (Neil S), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 20:46 (11 months ago) Permalink
Aldo, the web seems to suggest that Camber Sands can do two-berth, but we'll look into it.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 6 June 2012 20:48 (11 months ago) Permalink
The problem may be you're used to Butlins. In Pontins-speak this:
is a 4-berth. The sofa bed in the main room always counts as two people, which could be awkward if they're going to make people share.
― Desire is withered away from the sons of men! (aldo), Thursday, 7 June 2012 06:38 (11 months ago) Permalink
Aldo do you actually think we would make up a story about someone having a brain aneurysm to get out of paying a bill? That's totally ridiculous - and we don't even pay the fees in Spain - the Primavera people do. We were pretty surprised that Matt was out of hospital and played that show two days later (not one), but that's down to him and if he feels healthy enough to do so then thats something to be happy about.
― Jamie_ATP, Thursday, 7 June 2012 15:17 (11 months ago) Permalink
I'm not accusing anybody of making anything up, although other people on the Internet certainly are. It happening at the same time as Butlins announced the change for you (as happened with Jeff Mangum too) undoubtedly fuelled the speculation.
I thought Sleep were playing Primavera on 1st June, so apologies for saying it was the next day.

Jamie, we know why Black Lips and Butthole Surfers are banned from ever doing an ATP - why are Killing Joke on Barry's blacklist?
― passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:36 (8 months ago) Permalink
from what i recall, and it's a little while back, they/their people were really fucking rude, aggressive and (so i hear) threatening towards some of the people working the event. they had something like ten people in their party and wanted a full chalet for every single one, or they wouldn't play. that sort of primadonna bullshit.
― Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:41 (8 months ago) Permalink
seemed like they had stepped out of some 80s stadium tour timewarp and had no idea how to interact with normal people who didn't want to serve their every whim.

it's just weird when people like that suddenly arrive acting like that when we have people like yoko ono and public enemy and nick cave etc who 'get it' and are totally sweet and take it as it comes and treat everyone with respect.
― Jamie_ATP, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 15:44 (8 months ago) Permalink
Gibby was just being a dick and had a bit of a scrap with a security guard when he asked him to stop smoking indoors. Although we were talking to someone else near the production office as he checked in and he had just come back from Turkey where he had spent three weeks inside off his tits on various opiates.
The Black Lips were caught stealing from punters' chalets though. That's not on.

they actually broke into the chalet of one of the ATP press people and stole her booze, and then offered it to her later that night at a party not realising. brainy guys.
