2008, so not really THAT long ago, but she did take some time off to write a boxing musical that was abandoned after she felt the plot was too similar to The Fighter.

Yeah, why not? 'Smilers' was a return to form, I think, after the relatively less good last couple of albums before that.

Didn't even know one was due... a bit of vague discussion on the AM website about whether its called 'Charmers' or 'Farmers' and some indication its sort of Cars/Abba inspired.

Mind you, the promise of a new Sebastien Tellier record doesn't seem to have inspired the usual excitement that event usually does here, either.

Wow, I feel exactly the opposite - I thought The Forgotten Arm was terrific, Smilers not so much.

As much as I love her, Smilers was the first thing I really liked of hers since Bachelor No. 2. It still sounded like her -- but the Moog touches plus the songwriting made it stand out more than her last few.

And it has some great songs -- "31 Today" is mildly devastating. "Looking for Nothing" is awesome -- the bit where she breaks into falsetto in the last chorus is just so...her. And I dig "Ballantines," the closer. Nobody does throwaways like she does.

OTM. The Forgotten Arm took a while to grow on me but it may be my favorite thing of hers now. Most of the tracks work on their own but as the story slowly sinks in the whole thing just gets better and better.

I still sing 'Ghost World' and 'Red Vines' to myself almost every day.

The albums after Bachelor never hooked me.

Love this:
Now you're running round the parking lot
Til every lightning bug is caught
Pinching some Pinholes in the lid of a jar
While we wait in the car
With cigarettes and red vines

5 months pass...

Only listened once so far, which is nowhere near enough to offer an opinion yet, but the Jukebox covered the first single today, and only I liked it!
