album is pretty garbage, voted for "i want to know what love is" to troll y'all

"the impossible", vibes for days

everything in the "h.a.t.e.u." through "ribbon" stretch was a contender though

instinctively wanna go candy bling but i might go for more than just friends, because its kinda more representative of what's so great about the record; that it's so texturally nice, & so cluttered on a macro level, all the lil dream-isms and interruptions, lyrically sweet over instruments fussing around. it makes me think of really nicely woven electro records like nichts muss by barbara morgenstern for sounding so well put together and integrated.

this is 1 of those albums that when i play it for my boyfriend years later he's like - wait, what the fuck is this

candy bling, the impossible, and betcha gon know are all big contenders for sure

candy bling is seriously like a drug, i would just play it and play it and play it

yeah this is "ribbon" for me too, parts of that are just so angelic

i really underrated this album

i think "obsessed" is a great single that i still bump in isolation, but usually skip if i'm listening to the ~album~

yeah "obsessed" is dope -- "ribbon" is good but i never really thought of it as much of a highlight

for me it's "candy bling" followed by "betcha gon know" (surm calling it mariah's r. kelly song = otm) and then "the impossible (reprise)"

personally i feel like my expectations were so high for this after LVM & the electrik red album that it just felt kinda unexciting to me but it was sort of a nice way to wrap up the year for terius... it's really grown on me over the past few years

OTM. It was part of that all-too-short window where Terius could do no wrong in my book, and I'm happy to be reminded of that time, even if this isn't nearly his best.

It was also from a time The-Dream could spearhead like three or four of these big projects a year, and actually get them released. I'm nostalgic for that, too, obviously.

my sister bought this for me for christmas in 2009!

xpost I think the zooming chord in the second and fourth bars of the "Ribbon" chorus does the same thing to me.

i like "betcha gon know" but ever since ship condemned it otmly as "the-dream karaoke" or whatever i really haven't gotten over that

"obsessed" is great! it's the reason the rest of the album was a total letdown for me.

i think a lot of these songs still sound new and distinctive

betcha gon know chalked up to the dream karaoke does not make sense to me. the lyrics pinned up against the drama of the music clicks incredibly well, and the songwriting in the chorus is astounding. imma la la la la la laugh, right in yer face boy.

tho obsessed is great, this album is largely about songs that *sink* in - like ciara's ride did for me - and it seems like ship and i tend to disagree about songs like that

i tend to disagree with a lot of people around here about terius vomit like "ride"

i went straight for "candy bling". love how it totally flips the mood of what it uses from the-dream's "i luv your girl".

pissed it never got a proper release (as far as i know) even though i get why it wasn't on the album.

this album was really big for me and I never stopped listening to it. agree with surm that it's about songs that sink in, and it's hard to pick one track. I guess I'll go with betcha gon know since it is so vivid and takes you straight into the mood of the album

'more than just friends' by a hair over 'ribbon'. amazing amazing album though, maybe her best.

I haven't stopped listening to this. It's so classic in that Mariah kinda way, no one can bring out anything like this, this is just not in anybody else's league. think it was slept on bc mariah/her team have piss-poor decision making skills when it comes to promo. like ... angel's cry was a single. nuf said. same was true for the previous album, not even promo for the finest cuts.

on both albums (memoirs & E=MC2) the lead single was v smart (Touch My Body, Obsessed), but apart from that somebody needed to speak up in those meetings and pitch ideas that actually made sense

surm otm. it was more annoying for e=mc2 because that was an album absolutely packed with potential hits, like almost designed to be a hit machine, and they still fucked it up - like can you even believe "bye bye" was a single? and "i stay in love"? while "i'm that chick", "migrate", "o.o.c.", "cruise control" and "side effects" were not?

memoirs was different, it's not like there were any obvious singles beyond "obsessed" on it, esp in the chart climate of 2009, though again mariah's team did it no favours - but it's v much an album for the fans and i doubt mariah's priority was hitting number one. i love it to death though, "the impossible" is just all-time

the first moments of “hate u” are so…angelic. the entire song is this incredibly poignant breakup song, seesawing in tone from this nostalgic tenderness to borderline rageful clarity…in retrospect a terius pinnacle
