btw did you all notice that the albums that were campaigned for all did very well? each time someone campaigned for an album i noticed it got points in following ballots. So if there's any albums you hear in 2012 you really love, start a thread on it and campaign for it in polls as it really works! Look at how well Uncle Acid did. It made me realise that not everyone reads the rolling metal thread but they might read an album thread.

Also Barn Owl made the previous poll, so funny how people are saying anything now.

I wasn't online much over the weekend, so thanks for another excellent poll! A very strong top ten this year (I like every record on it), and a worthy winner IMO. I happened to download the Hammers of Misfortune record during the run-down, and it's a great record- heavy but melodic, some lovely songs, good mellow moments and some nice soloing too. A great all-rounder, and I can see how it came out on top.

Glad you liked it. It was just outside my top 10 , but as you said it was a strong year. I didn't expect it to win nor did I expect Corrupted to do so well. It was ahead til the last ballot.

Anyone going to buy anything? I picked up the Cauldron cd cheap from amazon and ordered a couple of relatively cheap cds from play.com. Bought the Devil LP and Hands Of Orlac LP from ebay.

I probably should have voted in this poll! -- things got too hectic. Had I voted, if anybody's interested, I would have most helped the albums toward the top of this countdown, plus Midnight Chaser (which I heard too late to make the Rhapsody list) and Badmouth (which Rhapsody doesn't carry) -- neither of which got any votes anyway, as far as I can tell:

I didn't give up on the poll; I gave up on metal! But this year I changed my mind back I guess. And I'm not blaming you for me not voting; I had my chance. Anyway, nah, I don't think I mentioned that lyric, though I agree that's what it sounds like he's saying. Totally catchy song, either way.

Actually in that Rhapsody review I call it "a dirty song about a tragic Canadian Playboy bunny" (it's "dedicated to the memory of Dorothy Stratten" in the liner notes), so I guess I wanted to hint at the actual words without giving them away.

I don't think it's intentional, but it totally sounds like that. I wonder if they even noticed it before others pointed it out?

I've been assuming it was intentional! But of course there's no way to know for sure.

Curious about Uncle Acid, Devil's Blood, maybe a few others. (Haven't really studied the whole list.) But those two aren't on Rhapsody, and I'm cheap, and I don't download unless somebody is paying me to write about something. So who knows when I'll hear them. If they show up in dollar CD bins 20 years from now, though, I'm there.

The Devil's Blood is getting released today in North America. Might show up for you soon.

Label sent me a download. As usual, haven't gotten around to it. Fwiw, lots of other albums on the list (many of which I wrote about, mainly for Rhapsody) struck me as somewhere between mediocre to boring to unlistenable. But tastes obviously vary.

I'm not supposed to stream at work so I don't bother with those services, but isn't Spotify supposed to have a lot more music than Rhapsody?

Got 2 cds in mail today Condenados - A Painful Journey Into Nihil and Thy Catafalque - Rengeteg.

I bought In Solitude and Devil's Blood CDs at Reckless. Also picked up Ghost finally. I thought I'd get one at the show but they had sold out, but Reckless has 'em. My Uncle Acid CD finally arrived. I'm also really liking Altar Of Plagues and especially Thy Catafalque. How are their older albums?

Their #21 had only 17 votes. Looks like there weren't as many participants as on the metal poll. We could have totally taken over that poll. So much power wasted. Instead of Graveyard, YOB and Devil's Blood it'll be Adele, Pistol Annies and fucking Bon Iver. Perhaps Uncle Acid has a chance.

i dont think hammers of misfortune will place now. Bit weird our #1 didn't make it tbh. Though it seems the metal that did make it was stuff that crossed over to non metal regs. They didn't vote in our poll (5 ppl judging by the comments on the thread)but voted for liturgy,wittr,mastodon. If everyone pulled together we could've got a dozen albums in easy. We obviously could never agree enough on anything to get a top 10.

For some reason I flipped out talking about the manifesto when really I should have been busy plotting for next year. If Bon Iver wins or is even in the top 3 I will lose a little bit of faith in the people of ILM. Not much, but a little.

Well we're on the topic, Thanks for playing that Lamont last night. I don't enjoy Yakuza so I ignored his solo record, obviously to my detriment.

I have to warn you -- there is some singing that you might hate, and it's in the first song, which is interminable. If you can make it past the first 3 min of that without turning it off, it's pretty good the rest of the way.

He does have a really versatile voice though.
