yeah <3 that westbeech remix

tpp, Monday, 9 January 2012 13:17 (2 years ago) Permalink

@cashmere combabe, that's 'crayon box' by virgo 4. fucking ace.

second only to popcorn (or something), Monday, 9 January 2012 23:27 (2 years ago) Permalink

this is from last year but i don't think i've seen it mentioned on ilx (maybe sandbox?)

everything cottam does is good. the sounds just pop, spacious and dense at the same time, you just wanna drown in it (youtube doesn't do it justice.) kinda reminds me of terre thaemlitz at times.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Monday, 9 January 2012 23:48 (2 years ago) Permalink

that cottam tune is rad, i kinda like that new cliff richard mix too

can we talk about this here?

nice, i hadn't heard the cliff richard mix

i'm kinda lukewarm on a lot of caribou's stuff from what i've heard, but that's pretty great.

new Todd Terje:

that harmonic modification of melody during bridge is just awesome, this is going to be a big grower for me, I'm sure!

V79, Thursday, 12 January 2012 12:21 (2 years ago) Permalink

i'm sure this was talked about on sandboxx during the downtime, but Kompakt has a recording of a live TWELVE HOUR SET by Michael Mayer up on soundcloud. It took me 2 days but i listened to the whole thing and it is fucking incredible. hearing a single DJ go 12 hours in one sitting is a rare treat.

http://soundcloud.com/kompakt/sets/michael-mayer-total-12-megaset/

Some of the individual pages for each segment have track lists in the comments.

⚓ (gr8080), Thursday, 12 January 2012 22:10 (2 years ago) Permalink

nice.

i'm liking the new terje ep a lot so far. he's definitely catering to the same folk who ate up "snooze 4 love" but i'm not sure that's a bad thing

psychgawsple, Thursday, 12 January 2012 23:48 (2 years ago) Permalink

I heard about that then completely forgot about it. Much appreciated, gr80!

mh, Friday, 13 January 2012 00:17 (2 years ago) Permalink

the terje is marvellous

Number None, Friday, 13 January 2012 02:07 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah Terje is on fire right now, the two tracks I've heard from the EP are both lovely.

I did reasonably well at keeping up with bobbins last year but this thread always runs away from me so bookmarking now.

Any interest in supplementing this thread with a collaborative Spotify playlist?

Matt DC, Friday, 13 January 2012 09:56 (2 years ago) Permalink

I think "Inspector Norse" is better than anything for last year's EP, so immediate and full sounding - it seems so unfair that it's came out on the first fortnight of the year because I think it's going to stand tall over a lot of 2012. I don't massively care for the rest of the It's The Arps though, it's kinda boring?

"only girl in the kitchen" (boxedjoy), Friday, 13 January 2012 11:47 (2 years ago) Permalink

matt2, Friday, 13 January 2012 17:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

Yeah Its the Arps is great, don't agree that its retreading the same ground as snooze 4 love. maybe in sort of a melodic/ harmonic way, buts its palette and feeling is totally different. while snooze 4 love had a 90s ambient house feeling, the Arps, i guess down to its minimally treated dry ARP synth sounds is all like popcorn/ Wendy Carlos novelty dicopop.

dsb, Friday, 13 January 2012 17:53 (2 years ago) Permalink

I posted another track from this on the sandbox thread right before we switched back over, but i have really been feeling the new Linkwood. Someone pointed out the melodic figure was very close to Pepe Braddock's Deep Burnt...

best part is how you can occasionally hear crowd noise-- in the last half hour he even has a damaged record/dusty needle/both on a song that he stops and restarts three times

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 13 January 2012 21:04 (2 years ago) Permalink

It's like a low key cocktail party for you and Michael Mayer recorded it

mh, Friday, 13 January 2012 23:46 (2 years ago) Permalink

wait till you get to pts 3 and 4

pt 5 is probably my favorite-- def the "classics" segment and i'm guessing somewhere around 3 or 4am.

⚓ (gr8080), Friday, 13 January 2012 23:57 (2 years ago) Permalink

i don't think that "inspector norse" is necessarily a retread of "snooze" but i think using the palette of analog synths as opposed to endearingly goofy pianos or accordions or w/e is informed by its success. the new/original productions on 'remaster of the universe' sorta hinted that he might start doing the whole wacky live band thing a whole lot more... i'm glad he decided against that.

not sure if he used analog or digi synths for "eurodans" but i guess that's also got some novelty discopop appeal too

psychgawsple, Saturday, 14 January 2012 00:01 (2 years ago) Permalink

looks like both bradock and linkwood sampled freddie hubbard's "little sunflower". i feel like the same sample is used a lot in hip hop too... tribe called quest's "the love" for sure, probably others too

psychgawsple, Saturday, 14 January 2012 00:10 (2 years ago) Permalink

so i guess dilla is ultimately responsible for it

Nice, i actually know the milt Jackson version of that song, but had no idea it was from that. i'm starting on the Mayer Marathon as well.. so far so enjoying it, made me check wether Pop Ambient 2012 was out yet. (february)

dsb, Saturday, 14 January 2012 00:28 (2 years ago) Permalink

helpful to think that 0:00 of that mix is likely somewhere between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM and do the math from there.

i want to know what this is!

Cashmere Combabe, Sunday, 15 January 2012 10:40 (2 years ago) Permalink

Stuff from the end of 2011 that caught my attention ... Morphosis Morphosis Morphosis !!! Too Far EP with the Dettmann mixes is immense intense clanging dubby funkiness -

ARP 3 by Floating Points is best thing he has done so far and it's very house with some great cat noises buried deep in the mix which can make for a slightly confusing listen for cat owners such as myself

The Mike Huckaby SYNTH remixes of Sistol/Pole are absolutely wonderful too

out comes stanley, Sunday, 15 January 2012 21:42 (2 years ago) Permalink

Floating Points does a killer line in house/techno DJing, dig out his sets on Rinse with Kyle Hall and every time he appears on the Hessle Audio show and see for your self.

Anyway 2012 house yay!

Think of should go to one of FP's nights at plastic people one of these months... (is it selfish/gauche/RONG! of me to want him to just pump out nothing but house bangers like arp3 and vacuum boogie?)

EDB, Sunday, 15 January 2012 22:37 (2 years ago) Permalink

That Sotofett is great. Expecting good things from the Sex Tags crew this year. Not exactly house I guess but I'm keen to get my hands on one of Rush Hour's James Mason reissues. Discogs prices have been crazy in the last few years.

mmmm, Sunday, 15 January 2012 22:40 (2 years ago) Permalink

When I've heard him play it's nowt but house jams, he's smooth as hell. Classics, odd ball funk, detroit business, just party house all night long. He's a killer DJ. Go see him man.

Oh mmmmm that sounds sweet. If that aint house I don't know what is.

jimitheexploder, Sunday, 15 January 2012 23:39 (2 years ago) Permalink

I'm rather behind but the new Legowelt album is start-to-finish fantastic.

Matt DC, Thursday, 29 November 2012 12:22 (1 year ago) Permalink

xpost yeah it does sound a bit country and western to me. it's in that gerd panorama bar mix, pretty cool but given "it's you" is one of my all-time favourites it doesn't really do it. i can't get why people would pay so much as that's a record that you'll play once or twice and then never again, to me.

Heterocyclic ring ring (LocalGarda), Thursday, 29 November 2012 12:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

Prosumer really is the best, i nearly had a wee fit the other week when he dropped an m-series tune with a diva house tune on top for its entirity making an otherwise dreary night in hackney wick a bit magic (as long as i kept my eyes closed).

Whats the end of year feelings then? Ive not been DJing much this year so the compulsions to keep up has faded a bit. I do love a good december list frenzy, Ive been working in parties every weekend but theyve been of the tech house variety so pretty low on stand outs.
