I hate to be Captain Obvious, but "Crystal" ftw.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 00:39 (five years ago) Permalink

oops my finger slipped, voted Rock The Shack

Θ ̨Θƪ (sic), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 00:41 (five years ago) Permalink

haha

"Crystal" probably but I do love "Someone Like You," especially the mix popular in gay clubs in early 2002; and "Run Wild" is after "Dream Attack" my favorite NO album closer.

slow jam

Primitive Notion! May have played Vicious Streak more and love every second of Someone Like You and Crystal. This album has a couple contenders for worst song in the new order catalog but it also has some classics too.

Close Range is underrated

Much Ado About Nuttin (DJP), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 14:03 (five years ago) Permalink

Actually, I really really enjoy every song on this album

Much Ado About Nuttin (DJP), Wednesday, 4 January 2012 14:26 (five years ago) Permalink

^^^ listening to "Close Range" again inspired the poll. ("By four o' clock/You were pretty high").

would it be excessively contrary to vote for "Rock The Shack"?

Euler, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 15:27 (five years ago) Permalink

Crystal all the way for me. Someone Like You and Run Wild are also great.

Haven't played this in a while but I loved it at the time.

Kitchen Person, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 15:31 (five years ago) Permalink

I dig this album but it's a bit like going home for the holidays: you know you're reliving old times & you feel twice-removed from them as a result but it's still a great time &, well, "Crystal"!

relistening to "Rock The Shack" right & je ne regrette rien

Euler, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 15:38 (five years ago) Permalink

right now, dammit

shack being rocked prevents good spelling apparently

Euler, Wednesday, 4 January 2012 15:39 (five years ago) Permalink

crystal.

I think this album on the whole is probably better than Republic with the obvious exception of Regret

akm, Thursday, 5 January 2012 15:59 (five years ago) Permalink

vicious streak. very danceable with a great tune and this little melancholic touch which all great new order songs have.

alex in mainhattan, Thursday, 5 January 2012 21:59 (five years ago) Permalink

well, it's got no "Everyone Everywhere."

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 January 2012 22:00 (five years ago) Permalink

last year I would have voted "Vicious Streak" without even thinking twice

now I'm semi paralyzed because I could make a case for every track on this album, including "Rock the Shack"

Although I got a review copy in June, I experienced the album as a post-9/11 thing. It was a vindication of sorts to watch mid twentysomethings dance to "Crystal" in a couple of Miami indie clubs in November and December 2001: my favorite band had made a far from embarrassing return, and the kids liked it!

lumber up, limbaugh down (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 6 January 2012 00:06 (five years ago) Permalink

Crystal may be the best one but I'll go with Vicious STreak simply cause it's beautiful and captures everything I love about NO - Someone like you a tad below

I've said it before but I really recommend checking out the 'In Session' version of "Rock the Shack" which emphasizes just how close to a Joy Division rocker it really is (absence of Bobby G also helps)

TERRIBLE cover all told

piscesx, Sunday, 8 January 2012 01:44 (five years ago) Permalink

Not as bad as the cover of Waiting For The Sirens Call.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 8 January 2012 16:08 (five years ago) Permalink

New Order has never had a bad album cover.

Bam! Orgasm explosion in your facehole. (DJP), Sunday, 8 January 2012 16:20 (five years ago) Permalink

Here To Stay wipes the floor with all of this IMO

i feel very emo about this track, especially when it comes on at the end of 24 Hour Party People. can hardly believe it's 10 years old.

hey has anyone read this month's MOJO yet? there's a new NO interview/ cover story.

piscesx, Sunday, 8 January 2012 16:49 (five years ago) Permalink

Here To Stay is fantastic, yeah.

Still love this album tho

"Turn My Way" for me. Even Billy Corgan can't spoil it.

When the chorus kicks in on 'Crystal' it really vibes me up to the point where, right at that moment, I wanna be in the crowd at a New Order show singing along loudly to every word.
