xxxxxp, hats off to Alexandra Stan for getting five singles from an album i think only had eight songs! They've all been good-to-great as well.
I may be entirely alone on this but i'd love to see Dance by Lollipop F get a bit of late crossover attention in the same way that High High did last year.

so in some sort of odd attempt at X Factor UK/USA cross-pollination, simon cowell has dumped the "stop looking at my mom" kid on cher lloyd's new single. he is largely unnecessary to what was excellent pop in the first place though. love the video too. NNNGGHHH!!!

I think I had the opposite reaction of everyone else to Swagger Jagger ("yay!"-me) vs. the rest of the album ("blah"-me, again), but this is delightful.

impressive that adele's at #4 with only two days of sales o_O but i wonder if it's got the legs to keep selling past the inital curiousity factor.. odd to release a track on a friday and run that risk?

i don't know if i'd go that far.. when i hear it on the radio i'm instantly reminded of that goofy fuckin video and it's funny and it's part of why i like hearing it when it comes on. it's like it reinforces the memory of the video, sort of like hearing "thriller" on the radio did for the world-conquering video
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 10:07 (7 months ago) Permalink
well, lots of musical youtubes become big phenomenons with a bazillion views without the song selling mp3s in large numbers or getting heavy rotation on radio stations, so i don't know what to tell you. many people like "Thriller" as a song, too!

"Diamonds" is where I get off the Rihanna bus. Did she sign something that tied her to putting out an album every year? Feed in the words "Rihanna" and "Diamonds" into the apposite machine and this record is what would come out at the other end - trying very hard not to be "Umbrella" but not even a billionth of what that song was. Also I am just sick to the back teeth of hearing her voice everywhere. She needs to go away Scott Walker-style and come back in five years or so when she actually has aomething to say.
I wonder whether "Skyfall" will get to #1; the most boring Bond theme I can think of (even more so than Lani Hall's "Never Say Never Again" #onefortheteenagers), promises everything but drearily delivers very little.
― Here he is with the classic "Poème Électronique." Good track (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 11:20 (7 months ago) Permalink
the idea of even being on or off the Rihanna bus or worrying about whether she has something to say is funny to me. i think she has control over her career and what she sings, and that she wouldn't drop albums annually if she didn't want to, but her output is just always going to vary wildly based on who writes what for her. "Diamonds" is just proof that Sia is a bad match for her, so they'll go with some other hitmaker on the next one and see how that goes.
"Skyfall" isn't great but it's at least on target for people wanted from it. it's been so long since a Bond theme actually sounded like a Bond theme or came from an artist that seemed like they should be doing one, much less one as successful as her, so the stars just seem aligned for it to do really well.

Interesting guy and article even if I don't like Rihanna's "Diamonds" that he co-wrote
Mikkel S. Eriksen, part of the songwriting team Stargate, said that Mr. Blanco, as a producer, always reaches for unexpected sounds. On “Diamonds,” the Rihanna hit he wrote with Stargate, he took a snippet of Mr. Eriksen’s singing, altered the sound electronically to make it dirtier, then used that timbre, manipulated with audio software, to create ghostly accompaniment lines. “His technique is somewhat unorthodox,” Mr. Eriksen said, “as he almost never plays the keyboards but throws in weird samples and alters them to the right pitch to go with the song.”
