It doesn't sound any worse (or better) to me than lots of electronic music and dance pop stuff that gets praised on ILM (e.g., that incredibly awful Nayer/Pitbull song). Possible advantage of never really getting electronic dance music: being unphased by new developments (perversions, corruptions, whatever).

see that stuff is actually superfresh to me now xp
i spent a lot of time going out & occasionally DJing etc. for the bulk of my 20s, in a variety of scenes, and so I know lots of the 'classic dj tracks' -- it became kind of boring at a certain pt because you start to critique the DJs & no longer get lost in that "i have no idea what any of these songs are' mindset ... i've been going occasionally to this goth club called 'neo' in chi that is superfun because i don't know, like, any of the tracks -- its all 80s industrial type ish. and they play, like, nine inch nails at the end of the night. its not so much that i love the music -- i'm not out buying this stuff or shazam-ing it -- i just like that there's a dance scene i haven't bled for knowledge, and i'm kind of enjoying keeping it that way
anyway, its def a retro scene at some level because they arent putting on any dubstep tracks.

There's something potentially quite potent about the Brostep genre but i'm not convinced that Skrillex has anything like the talent or the vision to get the best out of it. He feels like the Korn to a Slipknot yet to come.

goth scene runs pretty deep in the Bay Area and I have had plenty of friends into it over the years. shit, once I lived with a woman who insisted she was conceived in a coffin... but it's just so silly. I'm sure DJP has a different perspective on it lol

Identify with deej's post the above.
I still have vivid memories of watching 'The Living End' at 17 and really enjoying all the pop-industrial used in the background (Nitzer Ebb or something I guess) and having no idea what it was. I've always wanted to stumble on a club playing stuff like that and get lost in it.

but yeah I see this pretty clear line from like Wax Trax >>> NIN >>> Aphex Twin >>> dupstep (I guess?) >>> this stuff and it's not really a lineage that interests me.
I guess I still like some Ministry records. That 1000 Homo DJs EP is good.

It's less of a copy of burial than faltydl (initially) already was, and way less of a copy than that one track on the Royal-T album. On and then like old Pariah tracks and etc. etc. etc. If copying Burial is a crime then Skrillex is gonna be on death row a long time.
