Holy schmokes this is great stuff! Thanks uncle Ratfucker!

And a friend of mine turned me onto Ghost a couple weeks back. I don't know that I'd always listen to their albums beginning to end, but their live shows look incredible.

Matt M., Wednesday, 21 September 2011 16:33 (1 year ago) Permalink

Glad you like it!

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Thursday, 22 September 2011 02:53 (1 year ago) Permalink

Oh man, this is so awesome. Anywhere to still find it? Even eBay turns up nothing. Ugh, collector scum shit.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 23 September 2011 01:00 (1 year ago) Permalink

cdr only oop. vinyl sold out on rise above before i could buy it as its 350 copies only

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 23 September 2011 01:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

Some people on another messageboard were talking about this & I just failed to get in on the 1st pressing of the CDr, but was lucky enough to get in on the 2nd. Great stuff. Was happy to hear there was going to be vinyl, & then dismayed to see it was going to be Rise Above - cue stupid prices & size of pressing. Think I heard their 1st record is going to get reissued on vinyl too (although that could've been someone mistaking it for this one), please Satan don't make it RA again.

Wandering Boy Poet, Friday, 23 September 2011 12:39 (1 year ago) Permalink

These samples sound great, going to have to try and track down the full album. I'm not sure how much say these guys had in how their stuff gets issued, but shit like what Rise Above does pisses me off to no end. I have no problem with limited edition collectible vinyl for the fetishists and collectors, but how about issuing a standard release to get your music heard? I mean, seems in situations like this that either the bands don't have any say, or they don't care about their music not being widely available, or they are happy to have people pirating their shit.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 23 September 2011 13:44 (1 year ago) Permalink

the album is easily found on blogs linking to file upload services. It's really good, and I would have happily paid for a CD/ legit download if I had had the option.

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Friday, 23 September 2011 14:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

the album is easily found on blogs linking to file upload services.

Yeah, thats how I'm getting this one. I'm just saying, you'd think a band would want the wider exposure and also the $$ from a legit release. I don't get the limited vinyl ONLY thing. Like, makes so much more sense to do both.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Friday, 23 September 2011 15:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

oh totally. maybe trying to create a kvlt thing, but then if it's all over torrents anyway what's the point?

good luck in your pyramid (Neil S), Friday, 23 September 2011 15:11 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah, I downloaded this pretty easily, but I'd much rather have shelled out $30 for a vinyl version, especially given that awesome cover art. Kinda weird when you WANT to give your money to a band / label, and they sorta make it impossible. Guess someone in the organization has a Swiss bank account somewhere.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Friday, 23 September 2011 16:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

Rise Above better do another repress. I dont want to shell out on a cdr no matter how awesome the package is, its still a cdr!

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Friday, 23 September 2011 19:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

This album rocks btw

did you check those ebay prices for both albums?

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Sunday, 25 September 2011 00:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

Seriously, who in god's name is the dude who can simultaneously afford to spend $400 on a CD-R while also being into these guys?!?!

She Got the Shakes, Sunday, 25 September 2011 02:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

insanity. no longer even interested beyond my download. total baseball card bullshit. lame.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Sunday, 25 September 2011 06:18 (1 year ago) Permalink

well, like Mammy says, "wantin' ain't gettin'", no way anybody's going to buy those

the tune is space, Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:54 (1 year ago) Permalink

uh those aren't buy it nows if that's what yr saying

the wrong terry to fuckwit (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

Someone DID buy them! Two CD-Rs totalling over $700.

Walter Galt, Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:30 (1 year ago) Permalink

oh shit, I thought that was what they were asking- somebody actually bought them? That's fucked up

the tune is space, Sunday, 25 September 2011 17:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

I mean the chances of either of those increasing in value from that price is effectively zero so you can only assume that someone was actually that desperate to own those CDRs

or they're shill bids for the basic purpose of getting people to post incredulous messages on the internet

the wrong terry to fuckwit (DJ Mencap), Sunday, 25 September 2011 19:07 (1 year ago) Permalink

good stuff, thanks

nostormo, Sunday, 25 September 2011 20:00 (1 year ago) Permalink

brilliant stuff.

"Kinda weird when you WANT to give your money to a band / label, and they sorta make it impossible."

this is what makes me avoid getting too into cool metal/hardcore. I have some broke ass friends in thrall to labels who do this.

owenf, Sunday, 25 September 2011 22:51 (1 year ago) Permalink

Listening for the third time. Why does this record have to rule so hard? I was hoping I'd draw the conclusion that it was one-note and sorta not worth keeping on the want list in light of the collector scum bullshit, but dammit, "Ritual Knife" came on and I was all "fuck."

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Monday, 26 September 2011 18:28 (1 year ago) Permalink

somebody actually bought them? That's fucked up

Exactly. The people purchasing these things are the real problem, imho, because it only encourages labels (and bands) to pull this shit again in the future.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 26 September 2011 19:03 (1 year ago) Permalink

Why does this record have to rule so hard?

OTM.

I have no idea why but I love it.

Is this still un-purchase-able?

She Got the Shakes, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 14:24 (1 year ago) Permalink

aye but im pretty sure a 3rd press of cdr is on the way but no doubt that will sell out in an hour.

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 14:59 (1 year ago) Permalink

Ugh. Really annoyed with this forced obscurist shit. Want to support these guys.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

why? they obviously don't need ppl's charity, this is p much literally the clearest case of illegal downloading being 'acceptable' I've ever seen

the green manalishi (with the big boobies) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:37 (1 year ago) Permalink

What do you mean by "charity"? Why is it wrong for me to want to legitimately pay for an album that I really enjoy and play the hell out of? Even if these guys do tour to my area, having a newborn at home means I won't be going to the show anytime soon, so this is a good way to throw some support at them. Yes, I've acquired the album for now, but I'd love to pay for a "real" physical version.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Tuesday, 11 October 2011 15:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

it's obviously not 'wrong' but they clearly don't give a shit whether you have a reasonable chance to buy one of their albums or not, so I'd just be inclined to say fuck 'em and burn off a CDR

the green manalishi (with the big boobies) (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 11 October 2011 16:05 (1 year ago) Permalink

This is the least satanic horror bloodsludge metal thing ever said, but the downloads I've heard weren't encoded at a very good bitrate.
Also, what jon said.

i have it on good authority that the vinyl pressing is really bad and "sounds like shit"

Armand Schaubroeck Ratfucker, Wednesday, 12 October 2011 22:45 (1 year ago) Permalink

Yeah I've seen a bunch of complaints about it. Apparently no sleeve either, just a piece of card. As someone above said, sounds like their might be a 3rd CD(r?) pressing, which is good news for those that spent a 3 figure sum on eBay for one of the previous 2.

All this is beginning to take away from the fact it's a great record...sorry, CDr.

Wandering Boy Poet, Thursday, 13 October 2011 12:46 (1 year ago) Permalink

i take it more as an ambient drone interlude than a proper song, and on that level it's p cool. certainly prefer it to the knife's moves in that direction on their new album.

i agree with nostromo. i'm definitely missing the skuzziness of blood lust.

authentically inauthentic (Pat Finn), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 16:14 (1 month ago) Permalink

it's true that the cleaner sound and deemphasis of heavy-duty riffage maybe threatens to turn them into black mountain or maybe a darkside cousin to tame impala

and that sounds like a gong-concert (La Lechera), Tuesday, 16 April 2013 18:44 (1 month ago) Permalink

So far I don't hear anything as powerful as "Ritual Knife" but there's still a lot of good stuff here.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 19:19 (1 month ago) Permalink

some musicians in this band! seems like this album may be a bit better thought out.

j., Tuesday, 16 April 2013 22:03 (1 month ago) Permalink

They probably practiced the songs a lot more. There's definitely noticeable mistakes on "Blood Lust," possibly due to the foggy haze of weed smoke that was likely surrounding them during recording. (ie "13 Candles" the bass switching to different parts of the song at the wrong time.) Those are some of my favorite moments on the album.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 16 April 2013 23:19 (1 month ago) Permalink

I really want to like this band but I feel like witch did this so much better 5 years ago. but I see a couple other people beat me to that observation last year.

British?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:09 (1 month ago) Permalink

i don't think there's another example of this kind of ignorance of succesful "indie" band

nostormo, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:12 (1 month ago) Permalink

nah, they give music like this sevens and below if they bother to review it

wk, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:12 (1 month ago) Permalink

I get the feeling that "british" is the whole reason this band is so hyped, right?

wk, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:14 (1 month ago) Permalink

NME, Kerrang etc haven't covered them at all. No hype from them whatsoever.

Algerian Goalkeeper, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:25 (1 month ago) Permalink

nostormo, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:33 (1 month ago) Permalink

well I dunno, I don't follow that stuff. I just mean here on ilm. I don't get why there's so much hype here about this band compared to other similar bands, other than the fact that this one is british. I can't keep track of who is from where though so that perception might be off.

wk, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:38 (1 month ago) Permalink

i'm an american, and afaic, provenance isn't an issue. i don't ride harder for high on fire just cuz they're american. and uncle acid have a p distinctive angle on their genre.

I have many lovely lacy nightgowns (contenderizer), Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:41 (1 month ago) Permalink

yeah, the distinctive angle is the thing, not the british. i'm not british.

nostormo, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:44 (1 month ago) Permalink

I guess I don't hear that. what's the distinctive angle?

wk, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:55 (1 month ago) Permalink

non generic doom metal (unique vocals and dirtier, "proto punk"/garage sound)

nostormo, Saturday, 20 April 2013 17:57 (1 month ago) Permalink

hmm, I guess I don't hear that any more so than bands like witch, danava, or graveyard.

wk, Saturday, 20 April 2013 18:05 (1 month ago) Permalink

Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats = Nirvana
Graveyard = Soundgarden
Danava = Screaming Trees
Witch = Oasis
