I think we're still under 15 votes, so put on your Pulp records and get listing! I am going to accept ballots until Monday morning!

I‘m wondering if it would be worth pushing the Kate Bush poll a couple of spots down the list. When the order was done, no-one expected her to have a new album released in November and it would be a shame to miss including it for the sake of a few weeks.

The multi-talented F.R. David (Billy Dods), Thursday, 27 October 2011 12:59 (twelve years ago) link

Same thought occurred to me, but I didn't say because I really, really want to vote in a Kate Bush poll.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 October 2011 13:04 (twelve years ago) link

Hmm.. if more people feel that way, I have no problem with that Billy. It does feel a bit of a shame to finish the poll and a week after she releases a new album. It's not like she releases one every year.

So I can get behind that idea. If others feel the same way do weigh in here please.

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 27 October 2011 14:46 (twelve years ago) link

I would hold off for six months. (Disclaimer: I don't know enough Kate Bush to vote in this one.) Enough time for initial impressions and enthusiasms to settle down and really judge the new albums against the larger body of work.

Martyr McFly (WmC), Thursday, 27 October 2011 14:49 (twelve years ago) link

should be album, singular, obv

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Thursday, 27 October 2011 14:52 (twelve years ago) link

More like two a year, eh?

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:02 (twelve years ago) link

I knew that was coming :)

I don't count Director's Cut as a new album. Or, not an album with new music.

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:22 (twelve years ago) link

Well, in a recent interview, Kate counted both: "It's not often I release two albums in the same year"

Mark G, Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:32 (twelve years ago) link

(last time was the Kick Inside and Lionheart, both 1978)

Mark G, Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

With most longstanding artists I'd've said a new album isn't really going to affect how a poll will play out, but I've finally 'got' Aerial today and it absolutely kills me. I'll have at least three from it on my ballot, and at least three others it'll be very hard to leave off. Noöne told me it was this good. It sounds amazing too - I was right to have her high on my 'producers' list.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:44 (twelve years ago) link

If Kate Bush gets delayed, would a strongo be ready to take us to the bridge?

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

14 ballots for Pulp - 93 songs represented. Bump up those numbers! Where my Britpoppers at?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Thursday, 27 October 2011 15:49 (twelve years ago) link

I'm hoping to get my ballot in later today.

the James Brown poll needs 120 ballots at least. everyone must vote!

my ballot submission alone will bump that figure into the three digits....

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Thursday, 27 October 2011 21:42 (twelve years ago) link

As much as I looked forward to launching the Kate Bush poll next week (goes without saying), I can get behind the idea of postponing it for a period of time, somewhere between 3 and 6 months (6 seems awfully long to me, but that will be because of my brimming enthusiasm for this poll), to make it possible for all Kate Bush fans and aficionados to take the new album into account. So if others agree too, that is the way to go.

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 27 October 2011 22:20 (twelve years ago) link

ayo when should i start the noms thread for jb poll in that case? i'm on it, if things get bumped up.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Friday, 28 October 2011 00:13 (twelve years ago) link

Pulp voting is in its last 2-3 days, so if LBI pushes Kate Bush back, I'd say go right ahead -- a little overlap is no prob.

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Friday, 28 October 2011 00:22 (twelve years ago) link

Le Bateau Ivre, looks like JB is a go -- let me know where you want KB put back in the lineup.

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:23 (twelve years ago) link

haha whoops! misread you there. well, if lbi wants to go head with k.b. we can nuke my jb noms thread. i have the opening post saved in a word file so it's no big deal.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Friday, 28 October 2011 01:25 (twelve years ago) link

Well, it makes sense to hold off on KB, and there wasn't really any pushback against the idea in this thread.

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Friday, 28 October 2011 01:28 (twelve years ago) link

this is such a weird game tonight

Bee OK, Friday, 28 October 2011 01:31 (twelve years ago) link

WmC, I'd be happy to push it back 4 months? Making it March? Can you approximate what new number in line it will be?

Y Kant Lou Reed (Le Bateau Ivre), Friday, 28 October 2011 07:40 (twelve years ago) link

haha, my last post in this thread was suppose to go in the World Series (about Game 6) thread.

Bee OK, Friday, 28 October 2011 07:54 (twelve years ago) link

I think about 10 spots...? That's a rough guess. How about the new 22 between Neil Young and the Cure?

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Friday, 28 October 2011 13:01 (twelve years ago) link

I have to run out and do a bunch of errands, so I'll update the numbering this afternoon.

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Friday, 28 October 2011 13:01 (twelve years ago) link

VOTING EXTENDED 'TIL MONDAY MORNING FOR PULP POLL.

Why live in the world, when you can vote in a poll?

WmC, I'm good with that.

Got a little TextEdit file with those handy so I don't have to keep looking them up over and over now.

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Thursday, 3 November 2011 18:16 (twelve years ago) link

haha I actually wondered how you did that and figured you would need a text editor to post the same thing after the James Brown poll is done [/too much time on ilx]

Good job!

Jamie_ATP, with the bit of balloting overlap that seems to be working out well, do you want to start the Jacksons poll this week?

D. Boon Pickens (WmC), Monday, 7 November 2011 18:20 (twelve years ago) link

Having entered my 50s recently, I think there's a decent chance I'll be dead sometime before Sonic Youth and Motown come up (as long as I last until Madonna and the Velvets, I'll be happy).

I ILXmailed him a couple of hours ago, and he's posted this morning on another thread. Maybe it's time for Lamp with the Paul Simon poll.

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Tuesday, 8 November 2011 16:56 (twelve years ago) link

Nah, let the James Brown one play out first I think - my listening has felt a lot like homework over the past month or so and it'd be nice to have a break.

(trying hard to resist the urge to volunteer for a minor artist quickfire poll)

Great to have that list, but should the "Fifties" music ballot be rendered also?

Mainly because the result (and the Spotify Playlist) are damn fine!
