It's BEAR HOUR!

mike t-diva, Wednesday, 22 June 2011 19:37 (twelve years ago) link

Apologies to those who were chased off a bit ago. I played the sucker and let Kerr push my buttons and I should've known better, really. The last thing I want is for the ILXORS room to be an unstable environment. It should be fun and vibrant and, most of all, varied.

...and that was the crux of my argument. If you have a single person uploading two tracks, of ANY genre, that go on for an accumulated 26 minutes (or thereabouts) it really throws a wrench in the works. A simple "hey, would you all be interested in hearing ________?" is all anyone really needs to do before uploading something that's really REALLY long. Otherwise, go nuts.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 23 June 2011 00:45 (twelve years ago) link

Hey, how do I shot this?

51 suggest gang (The Reverend), Thursday, 23 June 2011 00:48 (twelve years ago) link

This reminds me of Picklefish, the pizza joint in downtown Mobile where somebody at night would invariably put Beck's "Debra" on the jukebox, which included about 18 minutes of silence before the pointless bonus track.

I wasn't chased off, btw, just had to restart my internet connection when it crapped out.

just reg another acct

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Thursday, 23 June 2011 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

not really. that's just a sticky detail in the permissions, but these two guys who run the place could honestly care less about your twitter or fb account.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 23 June 2011 00:57 (twelve years ago) link

the log of the last hour is dispiriting reading

tipper gore (nakhchivan), Thursday, 23 June 2011 01:05 (twelve years ago) link

It was not enjoyable for sure.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 23 June 2011 01:08 (twelve years ago) link

currently playing a track from the new Motown/Mowest compilation. room warming up but still time to get your selections heard and make fun of kerr.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 23 June 2011 17:08 (twelve years ago) link

nevermind. cocksuckers just want to sabotage by uploading stupid shit then leaving the room. waste of time, imo.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 23 June 2011 17:12 (twelve years ago) link

Bumping. All is sweetness and harmony.

mike t-diva, Thursday, 23 June 2011 23:05 (twelve years ago) link

re: turntable.fm

Can't remember if it was mentioned here or not, but I just posted this in another place and thought I'd reiterate here.

I've played around on turntable.fm a little bit and, while it has some cool aspects, it turns the experience into more of a contest or game than I'm comfortable with. I'd rather just hang with people I know and play tunes instead of voting things up or down. Also, the chat portion of turntable.fm is deemphasized in favor of some totally dumb "virtual club" setting which looks like an 8 year-old's video game. No thanks.

this is all true but I like that it automatically rotates among the room DJs so your tracks are shuffled better

also if you just create a small room and have a few people in there it's just hanging with people you know playing tunes

dmr, Monday, 27 June 2011 22:02 (twelve years ago) link

i.e. you don't have to bother with the voting business

also like that it sends you an email if one of the "DJs" you're "following" logs on

dmr, Monday, 27 June 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

so you can know if any friends are on

dmr, Monday, 27 June 2011 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

Your positives register with me, but I still think the format/layout is really non-conducive to a good time.

Alpaca Lips (Johnny Fever), Monday, 27 June 2011 22:06 (twelve years ago) link

it definitely looks corny. the avatars are like Wii characters.

dmr, Monday, 27 June 2011 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

oh yeah forgot I also like that you can search and play tracks from a database. I can't really upload anything from work so I could only use outloud as a listener

dmr, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 00:37 (twelve years ago) link

Fresh blood?

emil.y, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 00:48 (twelve years ago) link

turntable.fm, front page:

We're very sorry, but while we would love to let you in and rock out with us, we need to currently restrict turntable access to only the United States due to licensing constraints.

We are working very hard to try and get you in as soon as possible.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 28 June 2011 09:00 (twelve years ago) link

That settles it, I guess? I think Outloud has worked really nicely, with few of the problems Listening Room had. It's a pity you have to use you a Twitter/FB account to log in, but you can just create a fake Twitter account like I did. I don't see any need to use another site at the moment.
