drexciya are probably my favourite user of pad chords (or at least that same pad they use on most of this stuff) ever, rly need to listen to harnessed the storm more. they also have the best track titles ever.

Yes to all of the above.

Harnessed the Storm has the only Drexciya track that's given me chills, "Birth of New Life", and not only because it's the last Drexciya track on their last release.

i posit that c to the power of x... is the best beatless shit to come out of detroit (apart from jeff mills 'yantra' if that counts)

YO

why would anybody buy those clone classic cuts comps? aren't the albums still all in print?

the late great, Friday, 25 May 2012 16:00 (2 years ago) Permalink

nah, most of the tracks were on 'the quest' 2cd comp that had the masters destroyed after he died, hence the fact that its on discogs for £200 and makes me wish i knew where the hell i left the booklet

straightola, Friday, 25 May 2012 16:19 (2 years ago) Permalink

oh "the quest" is OOP forever?

well, that would do it.

There was some discussion on this in the Sandbox, but in the case you didn't know, Clone is releasing the stuff that was on Quest, as well as other early Drexciya tracks, on four comps; the first one came out in 2011, the second one this year, and the third will come out next month. The comps are a bit short and the packaging is weird, at least on the CDs (they come in oversized digipaks with only minimal liner notes), but the sound quality is great, so I don't think the masters were destroyed.

Whoops, sorry, didn't notice Vahid already mentioned the comps.

So, what solo projects by the Drexciya guys do you think are worth acquiring? I have the Shifted Phases album and the first Arpanet album, and while they're both decent, I think they're a bit too simplistic and boring. Is there anything in their solo catalogues that would have the textural gorgeousness of Harnessed the Storm?

Tuomas, Friday, 4 January 2013 08:40 (1 year ago) Permalink

get the other people place album immediately

also:
transllusion - opening of the cerebral gate
lab rat xl - mice or cyborg
arpanet - inertial frame
dopplereffekt - linear accelerator

silver pozole (clouds), Friday, 4 January 2013 16:02 (1 year ago) Permalink

o yeah forgot the abstract thought album

silver pozole (clouds), Friday, 4 January 2013 16:06 (1 year ago) Permalink

yeah, the other people place album is better than anything by drexciya imo (and better than most things in general)

(⊙_⊙?) (Alan N), Friday, 4 January 2013 18:35 (1 year ago) Permalink

agreed
