I think Impossible Princess is unfairly dismissed - there's a strange troubled quality to it that I like. But Light Years is probably best - triumphant comeback, full-blast camp, album tracks that don't just sound like weak singles.

Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

the only ones i've heard in their entirety are light years through to x; the only ones i like, of those, are fever and body language (and then maybe about a third to a half each). will go for BL, i guess. "slow" is easily my fav kylie single.

re: the campery on light years - "your disco needs you" is enough to drive anyone back into the closet. i'm still appalled by it.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Slow's amazing but I found it pretty weak overall. Same deal with Confide in Me and Kylie Minogue. X was a washout, Fever too samey.

Haunted Clocks For Sale (Dorianlynskey), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:06 (thirteen years ago) link

See, I love X, especially the first half.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 21:23 (thirteen years ago) link

i only have fever, body language and hits+ (hits+ is some singles from the 3 before fever plus rarities). out of those i'd go with fever, but i won't vote.

Mosquepanik at Ground Zero (abanana), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link

fever by far

blap...tremendo (deej), Tuesday, 10 August 2010 23:45 (thirteen years ago) link

My sister's fave was Kylie (I want to put an exclamation mark there) so I'll vote for her.

ive really been liking aphrodite

glad this poll is 4 weeks! ive only heard parts of everything pre-fever

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 00:08 (thirteen years ago) link

aphrodite is consistently vv good imo. really love x and impossible princess, though. maybe i'll go w/the latter?

('_') (omar little), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Fever vs. X imo

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 22:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh my! How can one choose from such riches? I'll have to think about this one.....

mo radalj, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 22:08 (thirteen years ago) link

she's had great singles but even listening to all of those in a row would be like chinese torture i think. probably body language tho.

Nah fever, BL and X are pretty great start to finish.

Matt Armstrong, Wednesday, 11 August 2010 22:57 (thirteen years ago) link

fever is great start -> finish -- really surprised how little support its getting here?? way stronger than BL

blap...tremendo (deej), Wednesday, 11 August 2010 23:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Fever is one of the best albums of the decade. If listening to it is torture, I'd like to know what great sex is.

is that like a rfi?

rfi?

Fever is brilliant, the clear winner IMO.

I have a soft spot for Impossible Princess but never listen to it now.

i dig the video for 'some kind of bliss', mostly for the editing and dexter fletcher as a slick hoodlum

kylie 'fever' poll

blap...tremendo (deej), Thursday, 12 August 2010 00:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Rhythm of Love is the obvious winner - she never bettered the 1-2-3 punch of "Better the Devil You Know", "Step Back in Time" and "What Do I Have to Do".

Impossible Princess a close second.

Weird Al Paca (SeekAltRoute), Thursday, 12 August 2010 03:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Fever > X = Body Language > Aphrodite.

Haven't heard any of the other full albums, just the singles (which are all decent to great).

ilxor has truly been got at and become an ILXor (ilxor), Thursday, 12 August 2010 05:23 (thirteen years ago) link

I picked Impossible Princess because it is one of the rarities of a vapid pop star writing songs and they are actually decent. I wish she would go back to this type of sound (or just writing songs in general).

Rating:

Impossible Princess > Fever/Body Language (I see them as companions) > Kylie Minogue (1994) > X

'get outta my way' off of the new one is a jam

('_') (omar little), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Fever is great, Body Language is pretty good, X bored me, and I'm liking Aphrodite a lot so far but haven't gotten really knee-deep in it yet. Haven't heard anything earlier than Fever. (I live in America; Fever was basically her debut album.)

Born In A Test Tube, Raised In A Cage (unperson), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 19:21 (thirteen years ago) link

"Body Language". Ace electro album. "Fever" was not far behind though, and may have been her most pleasantly surprising effort, as I never thought she had such a great album in her.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 24 August 2010 21:18 (thirteen years ago) link

(And, well, OK, I guess "Light Years" was also a huge leap in the right direction, but it lacks the 80s influenced electro style of later efforts)

Def Kylie. Bought it in Devon on hols. I didn't talk to girls for a whole year cos all I thought about was Kylie. No idea what happened to the tape mind.

Weird Al Paca (SeekAltRoute), Friday, 10 September 2010 04:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Shoot. Missed out.

Anyway, I'd say "Body Language" is her finest start-to-finish album, followed closely by "Aphrodite" and "Impossible Princess." "Light Years," "Fever" and "X" all have their towering moments of absolute pop greatness, but they don't really hold well together as albums for me.
