*the night i went to Sugarland and no one was there yet, and the 1st song they played was Obsessed. i deftly took myself past the bar to the dance floor and made the most of it. (well i think my friends helped me out after they got a drink)

*that mtg at work when the girl's cell fone ring went off really loud and it was "Dontcha" by PCD. dontcha wish ur girlfriend was HOT like me...

this feels extra-magical when you're the first one there, like, am i making this up in my head? one time i was the first of my friends at d4rkroom in chicago and the first song played was "certainly" by e. badu!

when this 60-something woman - who looked like your grandma - came in the store and i was bored and nobody was coming in and i thought for sure she was just gonna walk around for a minute and give me a half-hearted smile and beat a hasty retreat except instead she asked me "do you have any lou harrison? moondog? harry partch? meredith monk? xenakis? etc etc etc and we had a long talk about fave composers and she told me all about her early 70's experiments with light and sound and i was like OMG DREAM GIRL!

I basically only know up through Stranded and a few assorted tracks. That one doesn't ring a bell but I'd recognize 'Avalon' and 'More Than This' from the same album

The first time I heard (or heard and remembered) 'More Than This' was when it played on the overhead speakers in a line I was standing in at a Disney roller coaster ride

*a few weeks ago i was walking home when i heard "don't stop the music" pumpin out of this lady's SUV. she was like humming along, and i started singing "makin my way over to my favorite plaace"

*lost in the Tropicana casino in Vegas, stumble upon a coverband (incl 7ft tall woman wearing purple furry boots) absolutely killing Stevie Wonder's 'Suspicion"...we stayed & dance til they stopped playing.

*Bow Wow Wow "I Want Candy" on my boombox at family gathering last weekend...my 13 year old niece walks up to me and starts singing along, and says "I love this song. It was on that CD you made for me!"....a CD I made for her like two years ago that I didn't even know she listened to :D

* played Genius of Love at a Raiders tailgate last year & sparked off a regular 'dance party' segment where a few of the girls (and occasionally some of the guys) bust moves under the ez-up...it is the funnest thing ever.

Walked into a colleagues office this afternoon and her internet radio was playing "For the Turnstiles".

"No Parking on the Dancefloor" was played at my cousin's wedding reception.

*hearing Apache (jump on it) at cousin's baby shower and seeing her dance to it (safely) while 6 months pregs

Once in Barcelona walking around at night round my apartment I bumped into what seemed like an American touristcasually playing bits of 'rocky raccoon' on his guitar. His friends didn't seem to pay attention to the song (they were planning on what they were doing that night I think) but I chimed in and sang the last verse with him. It was pretty uplifting probably my favorite Beatles song to sing along to and I never have the chance to sing it with anyone because none of my acquaintances are really familiar with it and it's not really a popular beatles song.

*went to random nearby sanwich/cafe place and the Echo and the Bunnymen singles collection was playing in the very suits-yuppie oriented cafe.

*popped into this random bar one night (the one attached to rocco's pizza if any pdxers are reading this) and i was the only person in there other than the bartender and he was playing d'angelo's voodoo and we spent the next half hour talking about how brilliant voodoo and new amerykah are and then this group of girls came in one of whom was from yakima (small town in eastern wa) and she happened to know my friend who lives in yakima and we were totally like, 'wow! small world' and I we had fun chatting and drinking and taking pictures and all this happened while voodoo was playing :-)

Went to Poptimism last year but was sitting downstairs with friends in the non-Poptimism bit of the bar, a not untrendy bar, and they played Violator from start to finish.

*up a ladder decorating last week and "It's Just The Night" from the new I Am Kloot album came up on Spotify's "What's New" tab. So beautiful I had to down tools and listen to it three times again.

Went out tonight with my best friend for the first time in years where his wife wasn't in tow. Love her but . . . not the same. We went to see another of our really great friends DJ at a dive bar in the asshole of MA. When I got in the car, my favorite Luna song started playing as if on cue. It was idyllic.
