Note that musician includes singers. The person who comes to mind is Frank Sinatra.

Elvis Presley. The movies were shit, but he could actually act.

I recall Dwight Yoakam putting in an amazing performance in Sling Blade.

Don't forget that Billy Bob Thorton considers himself a musician first and foremost. So he's a good actor.

Will Oldham is a great actor (he was an actor before he was a singer - see John Sayles' "Matewan" and the 80s TV movie about Baby Jessica in the well). He had a bit part in the most recent Kelly Reichardt film as well ("Wendy & Lucy") and was very convincing.

I know it's basically his only role but Steven Van Zandt is great in The Sopranos.

^ He's a bit panto.

Haven't seen Sling Blade, but Yoakam was lol in Crank.

Tim Rogers was the best actor in Ep 1 of I Rock. But that's not unqualified praise.

I haven't seen the movie again since it was first released, but I thought that Gary & Martin Kemp were pretty good in The Krays

Sinatra and Kris Kristofferson own this thread BTW

David Bowie wasn't bad.

Rick Springfield as Dr. Noah Drake. Roger Daltrey's had a couple good turns in B-movies and episodic TV.

Mick Jagger as 'Vacendak' in Freejack alongside Emilio Estevez.

David Bowie wasn't bad.

... indeed, he was atrocious

Neil Diamond's acting in "The Jazz Singer" is better than Laurence Olivier's, if that counts for anything

is Marky Mark all-time greatest example of this?

Jared Leto. He went out to LA to start his movie career...let's be serious he is an alright actor. But when it comes to his music it is awful! It was nice of him to get his brother famous, but honestly no one gives a fuck about how your hair looks on stage or the fact that you have a massive cult following of hipster, teen girls who would love nothing more than to make Leto their baby's daddy. When on stage he acts like he thinks he is a big deal. If he wouldn't have been an actor would we have this type of success? The fact of the matter is that when you mix movies and music it can be a good thing (Mos Def, Jack Black, and Will Smith). It can also be a bad thing (Marky Mark, Billy Bob, Eddie Murphy). Some actors need to stay with their acting and let their record deals go. This can also lead to the athlete/musicians argument but let's save that.
