The inevitable Ellie Goulding thread

I imagine she'll get her US push this year and although you british lot seem to be pretty aware of her already, we Yanks don't much know about her.

Under the Sheets was top ten for me last year. I really like her.

christ every year there's some new British chanteuse (but only one! we can't handle more than one a year) foisted on the American public make it stop.

honestly preferred it when the UK was cranking out electric guitar virtuosos instead of this bullshit

spectacular! that's you accounted for then.

Lucky bastards.

Actually, Shakey, this year there is also Marina Diamandis, who I am voting for, though I could easily imagine myself turning against her. (Regardless of where I ultimately land w/r/t her singing, she writes some excellent songs.)

jed_, Friday, 19 February 2010 01:22 (3 years ago) Permalink

jed_, Friday, 19 February 2010 01:23 (3 years ago) Permalink

hehe jed i made the mistake once of starting a poll about sharon osbourne calling her a "cunt" in the scottish meaning and some americans weren't very happy about it!

Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 19 February 2010 01:41 (3 years ago) Permalink

;) i think i'd rather listen to a sharon osbourne record tbh

Does she have a breakout hit in the U.S.? "Lights" is at number 80 in Billboard this weeks but I heard it in the car for the second day in a row.

timellison, Tuesday, 7 February 2012 23:23 (1 year ago) Permalink

She's been sorta simmering? I think the fanbase/name recognition is there now and she kinda needs one more track to break out in a big way.

& shes dating skrillex?! i guess this is old news but wtf

When asked about how he met the 'Starry Eyed' singer, he replied: "I sent her an e-mail, like, 'I'm Skrillex. I don't know if you know who I am, but I love your shit. We started texting and talking on the phone."

johnny crunch, Monday, 23 July 2012 23:07 (9 months ago) Permalink

i'm guessing that's probably the only reason for her stateside success (i believe she sings on one of his excellent compositions too)

Jamie_ATP, Monday, 23 July 2012 23:12 (9 months ago) Permalink

yes, i hear her on pop radio every day because she's dating a guy who, while very famous, has never been on pop radio

Just last week, we finally saw the other song that topped the On-Demand chart that isn't a Hot 100 No. 1 (yet): Ellie Goulding's "Lights." That song is now at No. 2 on the Hot 100 after one of the longest, slowest climbs in chart history, and it may be about to take over the top slot this week.

Weird that "Lights" is so high on the charts now. I feel like it was all over the radio this winter/spring but I haven't heard it in months.

i hear this all the time now. never thought she would happen here. like, despite all the popular remixes of that song and everything, even la roux happening here surprised me less

The songs alright but I absolutely hate her new haircut/-style. She looks like that one girl from the midwest on each season of America's Next Top Model who gets the old hair and eyebrow dye so that she looks like an albino alien. Just cause you're dating Skrillex doesn't mean you have to be Grimes.

scarfs, Monday, 10 September 2012 17:26 (8 months ago) Permalink

I pay almost no attention to her (why because she booring), but I had no idea about the Skrillex thing.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 September 2012 17:29 (8 months ago) Permalink

This song's pretty okay.
