What bands do you musically associate with the suburbs?

I have fond memories of suburban life in the mountains up north in New Jersey, so I think of fresh air, laid back, simple, birds, trees, lawns, the lake...

Guided By Voices
Real Estate
Bottomless Pit
Lemonheads

Since we're posting images, I love this cover:

Also just to make sure- do those bands make you think of the suburbs musically or is it mainly because they have "suburb" somewhere in the title? I'm not trying to be rude I just wanted to make sure I was clear about my thread topic originally.

The closing theme to Simple Men sounds a hell of a lot like Real Estate and YLT.

I'll check it out!

xpost It probably is YLT. They're all over that film, but I can't remember the closing theme.

do those bands make you think of the suburbs musically ...

Honestly, my post was maybe 5% "witty" riposte, but when The Suburbs' debut LP was released, I was indeed still living with my parents in the suburbs, and driving in to the big city to see bands on the weekends. And The Suburbs were also suburban kids, creating their own brand of art/punk that had nothing to with railing against Reagan or whatever, and much more about being intrigued/bemused by tall buildings, business executives and cows.

So the band reminds me of that time/place, not any specific bird/tree/lake feelings.

Haha thats cool. That time/place is what I'm asking about I was just personally being specific with elements of my own suburbs.

Also is it just me, or did a lot of 90s/late 80s indie music feature pictures of backyards/trees/other suburban imagery in album art and videos? Maybe thats part of the psychological connection for me.
