were there really not enough tracks + albums from 2009 that you like that you need to pick stuff from a 2010 album?
^ this! c'mon people.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 22 January 2010 01:09 (fourteen years ago) link
did i not say i'd love to make some room on my list?
those tracks leaked in like september or something, and "keep it up" is genuinely one of my favorite songs i heard this year
― psychgawsple, Friday, 22 January 2010 01:54 (fourteen years ago) link
plus it IS on the ballot.
― psychgawsple, Friday, 22 January 2010 01:57 (fourteen years ago) link
err, list of noms rather
― psychgawsple, Friday, 22 January 2010 01:58 (fourteen years ago) link
"baby can't stop" would be a defensible choice, can't see any scenario where a freaking album track from an officially 2010 album would be ok
― ethan PADGY (k3vin k.), Friday, 22 January 2010 02:07 (fourteen years ago) link
Hey, is it cool if I vote for Contra? (jk)
― Mordy, Friday, 22 January 2010 02:11 (fourteen years ago) link
Just voted!
― Pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 22 January 2010 02:17 (fourteen years ago) link
I have 83 submissions so far, I checked and last year I got about 95 total submissions, and since about 10 people didn't do a tracks or albums it equated to about 85 or so each. There's usually a rush last day so I'm sure we'll beat last year by a bit.
― musically, Friday, 22 January 2010 02:53 (fourteen years ago) link
Hey musically, I'm going to compile & submit my lists tonight, but is it OK if send you a few blurbs separately, in the days to come? If not, it's cool.. I'd meant to write a few things, but I forgot about the deadline I don't know if I'll have the chance to do it tonight.
― ron paul revulvalution (Pillbox), Friday, 22 January 2010 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link
so how are folks handling things from 2008 albums like Taylor Swift? she didn't get much love in last years list iirc.
― Moreno, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:10 (fourteen years ago) link
Album isn't eligible imo, but singles released this year (You Belong With Me + Fifteen) are.
― Mordy, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:12 (fourteen years ago) link
i'm gonna feel bad when Fearless places on neither 2008 or 2009, because it could be top ten in either imo, but it's a 2008 album and i'm not going to vote for it in a 2009 poll. the singles are totally fair game imo tho, i voted for "you belong with me"
xp
― ethan PADGY (k3vin k.), Friday, 22 January 2010 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link
well Fearless was nominated but i'm guessing most people will pass on it bc of the release date
― Moreno, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link
I'd like to start posting tracks on Monday, so if you can get me your blurbs by then, I'll add them.
― musically, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:19 (fourteen years ago) link
i'm pretty excited to see these results, could be a good palate-cleanser after P&J
― some dude, Friday, 22 January 2010 03:22 (fourteen years ago) link
I'm cross-checking my lists vs. the noms & am surprised to see that neither the Clipse or Royce da 5'9" albums were nominated.
― ron paul revulvalution (Pillbox), Friday, 22 January 2010 03:27 (fourteen years ago) link
I voted for Fearless because it had no real traction in the UK until 2009. Also Love Story was released in 2009 over here as well, so that got my vote. Thought You Belong to Me would be the strategic choice, but gave up on that and just went with what I preferred. Same goes for Fuck Buttons and The-Dream tracks.

yeah, fearless had a UK 2009 release date, plus the platinum edition was 2009. though my vote is really for the US original version - UK version screws it up with "pop remixes" ugh, platinum edition screws up the track sequencing - so i guess it's cheating somewhat but whatever
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 22 January 2010 10:54 (fourteen years ago) link
and yeah genuinely enthused about seeing these results
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 22 January 2010 10:55 (fourteen years ago) link
our results will shit on this year's P&J from a very GRATE height, i predict!
― the not-metal one (Ioannis), Friday, 22 January 2010 12:25 (fourteen years ago) link
Sorry if this has already been said, but can I just send a top 10 for tracks? I'm stuck staring at the list and I know if I try to do all 20 it'll never be finished, whereas if I can just chuck 10 in there it'll be fine.
And for some reason I was operating under the impression it was 30 slots each, so now I'm going to have to get rid of 10 albums. Gah.
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 14:18 (fourteen years ago) link
Oh no shit I only voted for fifteen of each, oops duh! Does that screw things up? Only my albums were ranked btw.
― We should have called Suzie and Bobby (NickB), Friday, 22 January 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link
I am taking Wicked Witch off my ballot, even though it was initially quite high, as it isn't technically an album from this year. I am very sorry. It deserves to place anyway.
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 14:43 (fourteen years ago) link
(As in, it's a reissue... which means it's still eligible, just not for my ruthless cutting purposes.)
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 14:45 (fourteen years ago) link
emil.y, you can vote for as few as you like - just no more than 20 apiece
― ethan PADGY (k3vin k.), Friday, 22 January 2010 15:33 (fourteen years ago) link
my trax are way faggier than my albums, half of which im kinda only eh abt which surprised me.
― plaxico (I know, right?), Friday, 22 January 2010 15:37 (fourteen years ago) link
Thanks, Kevin. It looks like I'm voting for 12 tracks in the end. AND putting Wicked Witch back on my albums, just docking it some points. It needs to be there.
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 15:39 (fourteen years ago) link
ballots due today!
― musically, Friday, 22 January 2010 16:49 (fourteen years ago) link
It looks like I'm voting for 12 tracks in the end
tell you what, emil.y, I'll give you 8 tracks to vote for and you give me 8 albums. I'm struggling to get to 20 albums especially now that RLINC has been cruelly and vindictively booted off the noms list ;)
― Jeff W, Friday, 22 January 2010 17:18 (fourteen years ago) link
Aw, I've sent mine in now. But in case you want to do some last minute listening, have you considered the Trembling Bells, Belbury Poly or Position Normal albums? Note that these are not the top 3 of my poll, but ones that I think may be overlooked and could do with extra votes. I've kind of reconciled myself with the fact that I'll be the only person to vote for Arthur & Martha, otherwise I'd be pushing for them, too.
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 17:41 (fourteen years ago) link
Also, if you want something rockier, I didn't vote for Lovvers in the end, but they're good guys and could do with some lovve.
― emil.y, Friday, 22 January 2010 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link
Belbury Poly may well feature somewhere on my ballot :)
I've only heard one track from the position normal cassette, but I liked it.

End of the day for wherever, I guess, with the absolute latest ballots being counted if received before 11:59 PST.
― Johnny Fever, Saturday, 23 January 2010 01:43 (fourteen years ago) link
i didn't want people to have to convert PST to their time, so just submit it while it's the 22nd where you are. I won't be doing the calculations at midnight anyway so i don't care.
― musically, Saturday, 23 January 2010 01:57 (fourteen years ago) link
Agreed about the Major Lazer "Pon de floor" omission, also "Hold the Line"

So… I only paid money (which I consider the base level of actual YES! interest in music anymore) for 18 albums out of the list, but at least I got a ballot in. A thin, lonely ballot that won't change anything, but hey, I voted for Nader.

Sorry, Oneida and Sunn O)))! Too many good albums in 2009 and more than 20 I still want to hear.
― Sundar, Saturday, 23 January 2010 05:55 (fourteen years ago) link
Oneida is top ten, though... :'(
