Yup. Had heard about this a while ago so can't wait to hear the results!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:16 (3 years ago) Permalink

Curious to hear this.

sarahel, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:17 (3 years ago) Permalink

neat-o!

tylerw, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:21 (3 years ago) Permalink

assuming it's ... electric?

tylerw, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:21 (3 years ago) Permalink

way electric, check out the Myspace for a long review of their live debut.

sleeve, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:24 (3 years ago) Permalink

The only other Corsano-related stuff that I've heard is that Vampire Can't album, which is just completely awesome, so this looks promising.
What else should I check out?

Fetchboy, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:32 (3 years ago) Permalink

He's done a lot of projects with John Zorn, hasn't he?

sarahel, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:33 (3 years ago) Permalink

get the flower corsano duo records. they're awesome.

wmlynch, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:33 (3 years ago) Permalink

oh i'm psyched

xp Corsano is everywhere, i've hyped Flower-Corsano Duo before. his work with Paul Flaherty is also great.

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:34 (3 years ago) Permalink

Heard about this a few weeks ago. Way stoked (but I also hope there will be more Freak Of Araby).

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:35 (3 years ago) Permalink

The show I saw on that tour was pretty awesome.

sarahel, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:36 (3 years ago) Permalink

Corsano's participation in Sunburned Hand of the Man jams elevates them to new heights.

Trip Maker, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:38 (3 years ago) Permalink

pretty much everything and everyone he plays with moves up a level or two

love the Flaherty sessions, the Flower-Corsano albums and his last solo album is pretty damn good too

rizzx, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:49 (3 years ago) Permalink

needless to say; i'm beyond psyched for this...please come to Hasselt soon

rizzx, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:49 (3 years ago) Permalink

The album is complete already if my source is correct.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:50 (3 years ago) Permalink

xxp and still he's in so damn much. perhaps we should have a rolling Corsano thread for 2010

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 20:51 (3 years ago) Permalink

That review makes it sound pretty killer -- arena rock! Quite honestly, I would not be as interested if it simply described more raga/drone/free jazz experimentation.

QuantumNoise, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 21:02 (3 years ago) Permalink

definitely!

last time I Chris Corsano - with Flower, i think - I kept thinking, 'any second now he's gonna drop into some straight up heavy rock beat', but of course it never happened.

but early 80s no wave meets melodic psychedelia? who else could be described like that?

gnarly sceptre, Wednesday, 9 December 2009 23:45 (3 years ago) Permalink

This is probably going to be the best band ever. The new Flower-Corsano record is great too.

jonathan - stl, Thursday, 10 December 2009 04:32 (3 years ago) Permalink

Am I the only person whose primary engine of interest in this is SRB? I admit to knowing pretty much zilch about Chris Corsano...

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:19 (3 years ago) Permalink

you're not alone, no. his involvement is the real appetite whetter here, but that's quite a trio.

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:26 (3 years ago) Permalink

(sorry for using the word 'whetter'. yeeeuch)

gnarly sceptre, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:26 (3 years ago) Permalink

Agreed w/ JL tho Chris Corsano does in fact rule.

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:36 (3 years ago) Permalink

Can only imagine how awesome this would be w/ both the Bishop bros.

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:37 (3 years ago) Permalink

can't you only imagine how awesome it will be as it is, or have you heard them?

mizzell, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:39 (3 years ago) Permalink

Yeah I'm real curious what if anything Alan will do next as bassist/guitarist. But I'm all about how Richard is spreading his wings.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:41 (3 years ago) Permalink

I wish! No this is gonna be totally awesome. I'm just daydreamin. xpost

retrovaporized nebulizer (╓abies), Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:41 (3 years ago) Permalink

Yeah, this sounds like it will be fun -- Chasny and Bishop one-upping each other, with Corsano blasting behind them ...

tylerw, Thursday, 10 December 2009 18:44 (3 years ago) Permalink

saw ben and the bish performing together at a ATP a few years back, they were def on a classic rock tip then

corsano = a free drummer who is young enough to have the power/stamina/dexterity of someone like rashied ali in his prime - i've seen him play w/ flaherty/moore/o'rourke, matthew bower, heather leigh murray and he always rules - don't think hes ever worked w/ zorn, tho

Ward Fowler, Thursday, 10 December 2009 21:32 (3 years ago) Permalink

There is one full track and a collage thing up on the myspace now, people. Sounds pretty much like the best thing ever, as expected. Chasny and RB trading leads over Corsano's polyrhythmic scatter, other portions reminding me of 'Juggernaut' almost making me well up. So psyched. And 'Freak of Araby' was such an underrated album I feel, totally righteous in its simplicity and purity of intent, I love it. And this is a band that surely has enormous live potential: if these guys don't make it to Europe I'm going to start my own booking agency! Was a real scandal that the Araby band tour was called off due to 'lack of interest'.

myopic_void, Friday, 11 December 2009 12:24 (3 years ago) Permalink

that track's pretty sweet.

m the g, Friday, 11 December 2009 13:55 (3 years ago) Permalink

Wait what do you mean called off for lack of interest? I didn't know about that! They made it to NYC at least, where they fucking killed.

vadnais heights is cougartown (Jon Lewis), Friday, 11 December 2009 16:51 (3 years ago) Permalink

yeah, I did not go to many shows this year, but would've gone to see the Freak of Araby live show if they came through my neck of the woods ...

tylerw, Friday, 11 December 2009 17:04 (3 years ago) Permalink

xp - European tour called off - US tour happened, and was quite extensive, and from what I heard, grueling.

so is the new one better than the last (my only gripe with the last one was that the show was 100000000x better, but maybe that's just the nature of the thing)

Crackle Box, Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:45 (8 months ago) Permalink

lol okay i just had a similar conversation to LL's just now. called my local shop to see if they got it in and ask them to hold a copy for me.

me: "Yeah, I just wanted to see if you got the new Rangda album in?"
sleepy sounding dude: "Uh, who was that?"
me: "Rangda. R-A-N-G-D-A."
ssd: *types away* "Hmm, nothing coming up for that in the system. How was that spelled again?"
me: "R-A-N-G-D-A"
ssd: "Nope, nothing, not even an entry for other albums by them."
me: "That's weird, I know I bought their first album from you guys."
ssd: "What's the name of the album?"
me: "Formerly Extinct."
ssd: "Oh yeah, here it is. We've got a couple copies. It's actually spelled R-A-N-G-D-A."
me: *slaps forehead* "Okay, cool, thanks."

fwiw, dude was super friendly and helpful, was just a funny exchange and made me think of LL's post.

haha!

btw, the album hasn't really electrified me all that much, but i like it. i guess anything is going to sound minimal after listening to a bunch of SWANS. the sound seems to be a little heavier on the sir richard this time? the drumming isn't nearly as crazy as i remember it?

anyway, i like it and hope that they find a way to tour again. the show was GREAT and corsano is really fun to watch.

yeah love this, not sure if it's as good as the first one, but really strong. i do know what you mean about corsano being a bit reined in -- i almost imagine he thinks of rangda as his most non-out-there project.

tylerw, Tuesday, 18 September 2012 19:19 (8 months ago) Permalink

btw, bishop has put up a bunch of his albums for free download over here: http://deliradio.com/sir-richard-bishop

Great chat there. Love Chasny the guy so much. Super nice but no bullshit (other than the good kind i.e. a sense of humor) and a real cool insight. Bishop is of course from another planet or something.

BC: You would think that, but I had to put on 12-gauge strings recently and, man, did I suck. I use 10s, same as Angus Young. He plays guitar in a band called AC/DC.

RB: Never heard of him! I bet he dresses funny.

I lol'd. Also 12-gauge is horrible, I tormented myself with those for years.
