F2K: Idolator Counts Down The 50 Worst Songs Of The ’00s, One By Ear-Splitting One
Contributions from several ilxors. I'm definitely looking forward to this. Actually, this'll be the first time I actually read Idolator in a while.
― kshighway1, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 02:48 (1 month ago) Permalink
It should always be read. But I would say this.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 02:49 (1 month ago) Permalink
Anyway the revulsed reactions from various friends who had never encountered brokeNCYDE before ensured this started off with a bang.

i think all songs on this list will be agreeably terrible

I like Whiney fine, but he's been insufferably ornery lately. Some time away may do him good.

any list that starts with brokenCYDE is gonna be a good one, for sure. A bold move immediately excluding 'My Humps', I'm pretty sure that we (okay, I) can only find it fun and funny now after years of being overexposed and acclimatised, forgetting how mindblowingly awful it first felt.

Out of curiosity, did anyone here who likes "Control Myself" actually read the reasons *why* Maura didn't like the song?
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 12:19 (1 month ago) Permalink
Yeah, I just did -- her criticism might hold more water if the production was as boilerplate as the lyrics.

Okay I'm not gonna lie, I love this song but I do see why someone would not like it, given it's an oddly-muted club banger that is completely anonymous and personality-free coming from a couple of the biggest personalities in the music industry.
All I can really say is zuh-zuh-zuh-zuh-zuh
― the blackest thing ever seen (HI DERE), Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:23 (1 month ago) Permalink
It's an 8.0. It could never be a 9.0 or a 9.5 or a 10.0. Though it could be a 6.5 or a 7.5. But it's better than a 6.0, definitely.
― sw00ds, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 13:27 (1 month ago) Permalink
I will admit that I was shocked to discover a few months ago that I had put it on my (108-track) Best of 2006 mix, but that's just because I'd completely forgotten about it.

the "Control Myself" blurb forgot to mention the 3 most pathetic things about the song:
1) that Fergie was their first choice for the hook and they got J.Lo after she said no2) that LL was purposely recycling his "Going Back To Cali" flow for old school points3) that the Clipse actually got all butthurt and accused LL of biting because they had their own song with the whole ancient "zuh-zuh-zuh" thing on it around the same time

Good question. A lot of Associates freaks really like the Wild Beasts and I can see why but in terms of a broader palette I'd want something more.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 13 November 2009 21:38 (1 week ago) Permalink
they need to pick a totally nice, talented singer and have an absolutely bizzare and nonsensical vendetta against them.
xpost Ned yr leaving my hanging there! Does this something more have a name?
― Shh! It's NOT Me!, Friday, 13 November 2009 21:41 (1 week ago) Permalink
(of course I can't think of a really nice, talented, humble popular artist that would be so undeserving of negative commentary that as to make the vendetta as hilariously ludicrous as it should be)
― Shh! It's NOT Me!, Friday, 13 November 2009 21:42 (1 week ago) Permalink
Hahaha no it's just that I can't think of anyone offhand who HAS that something more. I mean, a band like them does come close, but Billy Mackenzie's gift lay in trying all sorts of things to see what works, not just being a rock band frontman. Marc Almond's done similar but he's a contemporary rather than somebody new -- if I could stay Antony more maybe him but he's only good when he's singing with Hercules and Love Affair, frankly. (Yes I am biased.)
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 13 November 2009 21:45 (1 week ago) Permalink
I see what you mean. Associates are one of those sort of dead ends of pop music in that nobody beat them at their own game (and actually its probably good that nobody tried and failed). I do like Soft Cell too. I need more of it. I only have "nonstop" and the "bedsitter" 12". I really like how "frustration" and "bedsitter" attack the same theme from different angles. smart lyrics that are just as worthwhile now as they were then.

its not even that i am shy or a famousperson/archcriminal/futurepresident or anything.
its more that i used to post under my name and i wasn't thinking back then about how all the smart/stupid/whatever stuff i have typed on the internet will never vanish. and of course what i say here is a cheap substitute for who i really am and as online personae are starting to take over real ones i have just wanted to back off from it all and enjoy a bit of privacy. i will probably be deleting all my social networking accounts soon too. not becuase of that whole "facebook is really the cia, man and you are all victims of corporate/governmental opression man" but more because i have been at this on/off for 10 years and its all just a headache now.
this just applies to me - not passing judgement on others. also Ned has never said anything stupid here so he has nothing to gain from following my lead ;-)

This thread got too big in two days. Anyone care to give me a brief? Maura left Idolator. Robbie and Becky were hired. Someone over here got banned from ILX? Whiney came back? The F2K page is down no idea where it will be hosted now. Where is Maura?

I can't really remember if kshighway1 is one of those people in my mental list of 'ILXers who think I'm challops so I also think they're challops'. Was he being called a sock for suggesting that the article be moved to Passantino's blog?
― feisty, Spanish, girl (Moka), Saturday, 14 November 2009 03:39 (1 week ago) Permalink
kshighway1 gets called a sock all the time, mostly because he's really earnest about his musical tastes and doesn't take well to ribbing and that amuses people. Basically people clown on him for no particular reason. ILXors occasionally assholes shocka!

Well I didn't really meant the amount of suggest bans for that particular thread but over the course of time. In any case I was joking.
I remember I used to suggest ban him quite often when I first arrived because he would write the most outrageous statements about... well, everything and I thought he was some sort of troll, or 'sock' or whatever you call them just trying to provoke me. Then I learnt that he's been around for years and he's just born wrong that way so I carried along.
