I miss the Blood & Fire label. It was pretty much a given it would be mastered with the best sound possible, surpassing any other version, and with the labour of love packaging, pretty much always an essential reggae purchase. The flow of reissues seems to have slowed down, even though there are still countless classics that remain out of print. 17 North Parade has the Rewind Certified Classic series. The sound and packaging are sometimes iffy, but I'll take them over nothing.
Below is my wishlist. Some of the stuff I've heard via MP3 rips from vinyl or OOP CDs, others I just want to hear.

Some of these are definitely not out of print (Harder Than The Rest is on Virgin and Naturally is on Shanachie). A lot of good stuff here though.

Ah, the Culture album was reissued in 2000. Good to know. Not sure why Dusty Groove doesn't offer that one. Feel free to add others!

You can find a lot of these at Ernie B's, which I would check 1st for reggae.

(tho obv they most if not all could still benefit from a B&F type reissue)

Think Message From The King was also reissued in that same Virgin series. Armagideon Time and Showcase were both available on CD on Heartbeat until very recently so they might be preparing a lux reissue. Isn't Chant Down Babylon Kingdom mostly on Jesus Dread?
― Alex in SF, Monday, 28 September 2009 16:16 (fourteen years ago) link
Yeah Ernie B's is the great for basically anything in print. They have Bob Andy's Song Book on Studio One although I'm not sure what the quality is like.

Also have Rasta Pon Top.
I miss the Blood & Fire label.
100% OTM. I hate seeing Blood & Fire discs vanish from eMusic, often replaced by discs from the same artists, but with only some of the same tracks, or released on dodgier labels, or with track omissions, or with other problems.

Ernie B's still has most of the B&F discs pretty cheap and Pressure Sounds discs are regular price only $11.50.

I've got Bob Andy's Songbook. Sound quality is decent, same as all the Studio One stuff from back then that hasn't been remastered, ie could use some thickening on the low end.

^a song from his Songbook just came up on shuffle, and actually the problem is that there's nothing but muddy bass, drums are barely audible, and the vocals sound like they were recorded by someone holding up a tape recorder at a show.

Message From The King noted. I like the Virgin Frontline series. They don't look spectacular, but they sound good. Regarding Chant Down Babylon, only 3 of the 12 cuts are on Jesus Dread. Great collection, too bad it didn't include the whole album like it does Conquering Lion. All the early 90s Heartbeat issues are pretty shoddy.

"Knotty Vision (Nighthawk, 1983)Fabulous compilation, never released on CD."
Yeah I am pretty sure this is a licensing thing cuz almost everything else Nighthawk has done is available.

My Ernie B's order finally came in. Got the Sugar Minott on Soul Jazz, and also Black Roots and Ghetto-ology. They did have Culture - Harder Than The Rest. Now I want Cumbolo and International Herb, which do seem to be out of print. The Meditations - Guidance was a nice surprise, great songs from the same period as Message and Wake Up (also out of print). It includes the Lee Perry-produced "Life Is Not Easy." Jahgasms!

Barry Brown is great though. I'm gonna have to look into getting that. Also, I enjoyed that Royals reissue but it's not great in my opinion.

You made my day with this post. Hadn't heard it before but love some Ras Michael & Sons of Negus / Nyabinnghi stuff i've heard. Not sure if these versions beat Yabby You's versions but they really enhanced my Sunday.

I haven't seen much since this thread petered out. I've been out of the reggae loop and may have missed some good stuff. Anyone got an update?
