It plays over the end credits, so you can flee as fast as your little legs will carry you.

I like it. It's livelier than overrated current indie-schmindie stuff like St. Vincent.

It's got a bit of a Go! Team meets Japanese pop feel to it.

curmudgeon, Thursday, 3 September 2009 04:52 (fourteen years ago) link

too many uptight pitchfork indie-rockers around here

curmudgeon, Thursday, 3 September 2009 04:53 (fourteen years ago) link

What's interesting though is that the Japanese version is content being a goofy kids song, while the American version has to be a Mountain Dew-driven imitation of pop for adults.

adamj, Thursday, 3 September 2009 05:00 (fourteen years ago) link

i like how they made no effort whatsoever to make either the cyrus or jonas kid sound excited.

elephants of style (c sharp major), Thursday, 3 September 2009 09:06 (fourteen years ago) link

but idk the j-version is such a nostalgia trip, it's trying very hard to suggest nhk kids tv songs and a little bit of "classic" jpop. At least the us version is trying very hard to mash together some recent-ish pop trends.

As NHK kids songs are completely awesome, I'd rather have the former.

adamj, Thursday, 3 September 2009 23:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Neither version fits the sound and feel of the movie itself; it would be horribly out of place if it played during the movie instead of over the end credits.

seven years pass...

I Really Like *Noah Cyrus - Make Me (Cry) ft. Labrinth* except the teardrop sound effect sounds like something dropping into the toilet.

"Make Me (Cry)" perfectly describes how I reacted just now to hearing the Ponyo theme remix from the OP for the first time

I have seen the movie before (on DVD) so maybe it played over the credits and I didn't notice or stick around? -- at any rate, the "MUNCH, MUNCH / KISS & HUG!" refrain makes a lot more sense in reference to certain scenes from the movie than it does out-of-context as pop music |.'/
