Beyonce - "Work It Out"

Beyonce's first solo single, from the Austin Powers soundtrack. The dirtiest funk to hit the charts since..."Bad Boy 4 Life"...

Somehow everything we love about Beyonce and not much to do with Destiny's Child. I heard it for the first time very, very late last nite. It's on SoulSeek, tho hard to find. Any other thoughts?

I myself am prone to like anything this ass-shaking.

good effort but i give it a 6 out of 10. u cant force da funk.

chaki, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a Neptunes production. Beyoncé acting like she's Tina Turner. Dynamite!

I didn't like it nearly as much as I wanted to. I'd give it something like 5 or 6 out of 10. Like Chaki says, the whole thing seems kind of forced.

Oh dear! I'm shocked I didn't realize it was the Neptunes!

...And of course it's forced.. It's the featured single from the Austin Powers soundtrack..

i dunno, i saw her live on cd:uk and she was a revelation. I think the track suffers in having a definitive version especially in rel to destiny's child polish... but yeah, she smacks it live, like i never knew it possible. she'll be a megahstar if she keeps this up.

also i'm reliably informed she has size 7 feet (!!!!!!!)

Ahh, the Neptunes hey? Hmmmm, I find it be a very unimpressive number...I would give it a 4 out of 10, funky bass alone does not a song make.

Have you heard Super_Collider?

Keiko, Thursday, 27 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't heard it yet, but surely a CLASSIC for the attendant afro alone?

This thing would've sounded a LOT better with real instruments - as it stands, it's ass. As funky as my dirty shorts when I forget to wipe. (Beyonce's Tina Turner impression is killer, tho. Check out those gams!)

Her bottom looks very nice too.

i thought the blatant contradiction thread is the "boom bip not hip hop?" one?

at first it sounds like an old school Meters-style funk song done with synths like Daver suggested, but the closer you listen, it does weird things to your expectations. for instance, there's hardly any low end except for the bass thump on the one, and that guitar synth has a much thinner texture than a real guitar, so the whole rhythm track has a feel that's really trebly and video-game-sndtrk-ish. then when the backing vocals come in towards the end, it's like 'oh yeah, mids exist'. and all the instruments are way out of sync, which makes the whole thing even weirder. and beyonce's voice is kIllR. damn i like this song.
