So like every year we're pretty much gonna get one electronic novelty hit that crosses over to bloggos as hot jam/reference/joke/meme because it's a catchy beat with someone saying something dumb/silly/filthy/wacky over and over and over and over and over again.

i think these things were definitely annual at some point, but around 2007 they became monthly. and will probably be weekly by the end of '09.

yeah but i dunno..i heard "lucas with the lid off" and "cantaloop" on alt-rock stations at the time, not so much "funk dat," so it feels like somehow of a different breed.

this is not about radio play, it's about embracing a novelty electronic song in a slightly ironic wacky way, which applies to both Doc Martin hipsters in 94 re sagat and keffiyah kidz in 09 re wacky fast food song

i don't know if you're 15 or something like the rest of the autogoon cru or whatever, but flannel dudes at my school were def doing the "maaaan... funk dat" thing for about 6 weeks.

what about "genie in a bottle" + "hard to explain" - certainly that was "a novelty electronic song" that was embraced in a "slightly ironic wacky way"

how is this not really blowing up as a story at all? only thing i really see is noz ranting about it on twitter

it's complicated. i mean, i think it will become more of a thing in the coming day or two. but it's hard for places actual news sites to run a story like this based of just a tumblr post. maybe someone will get an interview with the girl or something that would help solidify things a bit.

which of course isn't to say that the accusation isn't legitimate... but it's a tricky area when you're talking about covering it on a wide scale
