DOH I FORGOT DREXCIYA

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 03:10 (3 years ago) Permalink

we'll take write-in votes for drexciya if you want.

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 03:10 (3 years ago) Permalink

Haha, was thinking of this titular shirt the other day. I'm not sure I'm confidently aware enough to distinguish overall accomplishment from founding-fatherism, though, otherwise I suppose I'd go ahead and vote carl.

EDB, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 03:15 (3 years ago) Permalink

Carl Craig probably more influental but I voted my concience: Mad Mike

sous les paves, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 03:33 (3 years ago) Permalink

i still haven't made the t-shirt, though i have the heat transfer sitting around here somewhere ... you need like an industrial grade press to do it right, can't iron it on apparently...

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 03:35 (3 years ago) Permalink

why Claude Young? why not Shake? Dan Bell? No Octave One? Richie but no Basic Channel?!?!

if i were gonna pick "the guys" (not for a Mount Rushmore style monument tho!) for me it would be Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Shake, Mad Mike, Dan Bell, Jeff Mills, Basic Channel, and Robert Hood. but those are my choices, not what i think most would want.

pipecock, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 04:28 (3 years ago) Permalink

it's from a t-shirt, pipecock ... shake and dan bell and octave one are good ideas. basic channel are not from detroit. i guess neither is richie but richie is on the t-shirt so i put him up there.

Ha, thought that t-shirt had Ivan as the first name. I was like, who?

DJ Angoreinhardt (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 9 June 2009 06:22 (3 years ago) Permalink

went for mills tho bell tempting

a lot of me wanted to vote james pennington

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 06:37 (3 years ago) Permalink

I guess Eddie Fowlkes deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore for being there right from the start, even though he never got quite as famous as the other three.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 07:12 (3 years ago) Permalink

Does Eddie Fowlkes have any seminal releases to his name? Much as I *loved* his two tracks on the True People comp.

sam500, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 07:23 (3 years ago) Permalink

if eddie deserves to be there for being there from the start, so does blake.

voted craig but would be happy if mike won.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 12:07 (3 years ago) Permalink

Would you say technically that Windsor is in the Detroit metropolitan area?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 14:48 (3 years ago) Permalink

eddie deserves to be there because red planet was as good as ur back when it counted. ain't no two tracks or comps about it

blunt, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 16:01 (3 years ago) Permalink

Eddie Folwkes "Time to Express" is pretty seminal to me. It was on Techno 1, I think?

dan selzer, Tuesday, 9 June 2009 16:04 (3 years ago) Permalink

eddie deserves to be there because red planet was as good as ur back when it counted

eddie only appears on red planet 3.

sam500, Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:19 (3 years ago) Permalink

i went with my heart on this one....

pipecock, Monday, 15 June 2009 22:06 (3 years ago) Permalink

I probably listen to Richie Hawtin the most out of this group, but I'm going with Jeff Mills. "The Bells" and the Liquid Room mix would be enough to put him up there, but there is oh, so much more.

stacey pullen too

guammls (QE II), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 04:15 (3 years ago) Permalink

I mean I wouldn't argue against any of those guys, even Hawtin. That said, Mad Mike and Shake are the two most techno motherfuckers ever. Since Shake wasn't an option I went with Mike.

pipecock, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 16:19 (3 years ago) Permalink

Never understood the Carl Craig love. What should I check out?

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:18 (3 years ago) Permalink

I can't complain since I voted for Carl, but it would have been nice if Robert Hood got at least one vote.

EDB, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:32 (3 years ago) Permalink

as one can hear in this mix made for last years ILX DJ mix competition, I'm partial to Pullen's Wave the Rave Goodbye:

The Psyche/BFC comp will always be my favorite stuff of his.

It is a shame that Mike Banks did not take the top spot in this poll. He towers over the competition.

Enter nothing in the dialog and click 'OK' (Display Name), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 20:00 (3 years ago) Permalink

I must agree-- Carl Craig has done a lot more spotty work and and also turned into a pretty unreliable DJ with questionable motives.

Hood should have gotten more love, same with Pullen. Mad Mike should have won this.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 20:04 (3 years ago) Permalink

thanks, blueski. remember looking for that Landcruising comp off and on for years, and it was always very $$$.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 20:07 (3 years ago) Permalink

Hood should have gotten more love

Agreed... he arguably invented a genre and all. Um I don't think I voted but I might have given him a shout

same with Pullen.

Nothing against him but if I understand the idea of Mt Rushmore correctly I'm not sure how you can elevate him above the other dudes here

DJ MARTIAN IS A KING AMONG MEN. Dan Perry, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 20:29 (3 years ago) Permalink

I mean, of course. Really, if I had done this poll (or the first one that this one responds to), I would have chosen five: CC, Mad Mike, Robert Hood, Juan Atkins and Derrick May. but still, the other dudes on here deserve love.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 20:34 (3 years ago) Permalink

mt rushmore only has four heads on it

moonship journey to baja, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 00:15 (3 years ago) Permalink

Stacey Pullen's 'Theory of Silent Phase' album was a nice Detroit lp that I don't listen to much these days. Other than that, his production work has been too limited to compete with most of these guys. Loved his BBC Ess. Mix and DJ Kicks mixes from the mid-90's however.

sam500, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 00:33 (3 years ago) Permalink

xpost: that's what makes it such a good/hard shirt/poll: you can only choose one and only one.

EDB, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 01:10 (3 years ago) Permalink

realized i missed Pullen here in SF last friday, which really pisses me off. when i saw him two years ago in miami, he and lee burridge were the best part of the night....

it's a shitty heat transfer and not a particularly good issue of arkitip either, would skip

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 14:20 (8 months ago) Permalink

it is very cheap though! they must have a lot of leftovers because they tend to mark up the back issues to like $40, $50, $100, $200 depending

the late great, Thursday, 30 August 2012 14:21 (8 months ago) Permalink

seems like craig should go in the middle, as the roosevelt of the four, but maybe you don't wanna split up the big three?
