Ian, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Eight Fucking Miles High. I swear that single must have come with copies of Bob's vocal cords in the wraping. Its just way too intense not to be the best Husker Du song. The best album song is Whatever though as I think it was Ned who poitned out. All of Zen Arcade, Krishna chants and all, is better then Wharehouse if you ask me. Though I have a soft spot for "Live At Home" thats bigger then I think it should be.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

I still dont understand peoples attachment to Wharehouse. Could someone please explain it too me. I know Derek, Sean and Julio have tried much to all of our fustrations.

Celebrated Summer.

If anyone is still reading this thread I'd like to know who else was shocked by Bob's picture in this month's Uncut. It dosen't look like him at all and I'm wondering if it's a mistake. He seems to have lost about 8 stone since his early Husker days and now looks like some sleek faced techno boffin, complete with little goatee. He had lost a lot of weight around the time of Workbook but now looks totally tranformed!!

Rob M, Monday, 24 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Why, "Chartered Trips", of course! It's got a truly memorable melody that Mould never quite gets around to singing - it's implied by the maelstrom of guitar. I love it. It sticks.

He used that trick a lot, or maybe that's just how I hear his vocals

In response to the appeal of "Warehouse," I think it contains their best songwriting and most melodic and mature tunes. Nothing to thrash to, sure, but every album before it built up to Warehouse. If only other bands could grow as much as Husker did... in only 8 years no less.

Not sure if it's their best, but She Floated Away, from Warehouse: Songs and Stories, has always been a favorite. I guess I like the melodic Husker Du best (and Grant Hart's songs over Bob Mould's songs).

Daniel, Esq., Friday, 21 December 2007 00:35 (sixteen years ago) link

That song would make for a great drinking song.

I only purchased Land Speed Record for the first time last week after being into Husker Du for over a decade, which is very poor form really. But I like it! Underrated as a hardcore album, even.

Can't get away from Reoccurring Dreams as a favourite, that is still pretty epochal to me. I have a VHS of them playing in London in '85 and the version of that is FACEMELTING, bootleg videotape sonics notwithstanding

The math on this post is boggling my mind right now. A 57 year old in 2009 would have been 18 in... 1970.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 27 November 2020 04:08 (three years ago) link

i think we should give Fer Ark the benefit of the doubt here. they were 18 in 1984, which would have made them 43 in 2009, when they posted that message. and they were thinking "i love just the same as a sprightly 57 year old would!", looking forward with envy to how they imagined they would feel about it in 2023. you're almost there Fer Ark, and we look forward to your check-in when the time comes

Karl Malone, Friday, 27 November 2020 04:17 (three years ago) link

You know, someone who does these all-encapsulating polls should do one with Husker Du and all the offshoot projects (Hart solo, Nova Mob, Mould solo, Sugar, and the other stuff Bob did, the Parmesan Crusted Halibut at Greg Norton's restaurant, etc.) I would be happy to participate.
