Outside the venue there was a sizeable student protest and Albini did have to answer questions about the name in every single interview that I ever read.

Interesting, what was his justification for the name then?

IIRC it was just some stuff about how it was solely a reference to the manga strip, and how bizarre that strip was, and that the name wasn't really a big deal for them. xp

plus some of the ugliest record covers known to man. remember looking with confused disdain at chicken scratch and horny genius records many a time. never thought to listen to one. spent quite a while looking for opus lengthemus though.

Horny Genius had this one single whose awful cover was a photo of a man holding a bbq-ed cat on a stick.

I dunno. I picture the black tape as something a rapeman would use.

If you were into the Wax Trax scene of the 80s & 90s, you owned those Rapeman EPs. - I just realized that earlier I had somehow confused Rapeman with Lard, the intermittent Al Jourgenson/ Jello Biafra collab. I do also recall Rapeman, though. I had the Budd EP at some point. Never really thought it held a candle to Albinis more noteworthy projects & did not investigate further. I think they only put out two or three other records anyway.

It's something you would write on a master tape box, to indicate where the line-up tones are on the tape. But I agree it's a dumb name.
