Courtney Love discovers loss of £360 million of Kurt Cobain's money

Courtney Love says the £360 million Kurt Cobain left her and the couple's daughter, Frances Bean, after his death in 1994 has been lost, presumed stolen.

Private investigators, lawyers and forensic accountants hired by Love found that the majority of the money has been fraudulently invested into real estate by unidentified people using Cobain's, Love's and Frances Bean's social security numbers.

Laywer Rhonda J Holmes says Love is now taking steps to recover some of the money by going to court, reports the New York Post.

"I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude. This case is going to make Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy," she said, referencing the disgraced US financier who is facing prosecution for fraud.

"We will be filing civil cases...within the next 30 days. There are many, many millions missing. We've only been able to track down $30 million, but there is more. And then there is the real estate."

Holmes said Love did not realise the money was missing until it was too late.

he said: "Courtney noticed the money was gone when there wasn't any left. It's no secret she struggled with substance abuse issues, but in the last year she's taken a more serious approach to sobriety, and started noticing things were wrong."

After his death in 1994, Cobain's estate was left to Love, Frances Bean, his mother, two sisters and brother.

Is anyone entertaining the idea that the person spending it all using Courtney's social security number while Courtney was off her face on hard drugs for 15 years might have been... Courtney?

Ah-- some clues, from Wikipedia (so it has to be true):

Frances ... owns more than 137 pairs of shoes, 200 pairs of jeans, and many designer bags.

Frances' 16th birthday party was held in the House of Blues restaurant on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, on September 2nd, 2008. The band Mindless Self Indulgence played a private show for the event, which was controversially themed "suicide", representing her movement from childhood to adulthood. A competition was held for the party goer that looked "the most dead", with prizes including an iPod Touch and a $200 gift certificate for Amoeba Music stores. Her daughter's extravagant party allegedly cost Courtney Love over $323,000

Courtney Love spent over $323,000 on her daughter’s birthday party.

The Hole singer – who is the widow of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain – spared no expense in ushering Frances Bean into adulthood at her ‘RIP childhood’ themed 16th birthday.

The event was held at Los Angeles’ House of Blues restaurant. Courtney arrived in a dress worn by actress Angelica Huston in creepy comedy movie ‘The Addams Family’.

Frances’ announcement of the party:

Date: Tuesday, September 2, 2008

A credit card company has sued singer Courtney Love, claiming she owes more than $350,000 (£220,000).

In court papers filed in Los Angeles, American Express said it had suspended Love's Amex Gold card after she "failed and refused" to make payments.

Lawyers for Love, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, were not available for comment.

In March, the 44-year-old Hole singer was sued by a fashion designer over messages she posted on the internet.

American Express is seeking $352,059.67 for the unpaid balance, as well as damages and lawyer's fees.

'Emotional distress'

In court papers filed earlier this year, also in Los Angeles, fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir said Love made several "menacing and disturbing" statements about her on the singer's Twitter and MySpace pages.

The legal action accuses Love of libel, invasion of privacy, interfering with Ms Simorangkir's business, causing emotional distress and breach of contract, according to Reuters.

Ms Simorangkir is seeking damages, with the amount to be set at trial.
