Well I went and got meself the "trends and other diseases" album cos it had some tracks with mister thordendal of meshuggah on it and boy oh boy i am blown away by the amiable virtuosic daffiness of this duo and their buddies: is their other stuff up to this quality??? what worries me slightly is the way it seems like other (earlier?) stuff of theirs might encroach on zappa-fanboyism if they deviate from the very particular alchemy recorded on "trends.." . whaddya reckon?????

well, OK then - "trends and other diseases" is the only one you REALLY want to search. the "morgan" disc of "the music or the money" is damned impressive sequenced stuff that surpasses it's zappa "jazz from hell" origins, while the "mats" disc on that has one killer tune and the rest doesn't move me. "radio da da" has a couple of moments, but the production lacks, slightly (no guest bassoon or tuba players), and they don't seem to have any focus at this point. mats oberg's big band project with g.u.b.b. is quite pleasant but perhaps still too zappa derivative (although fairly much ballad - based) - right now i'm after stuff that cuts to the chase so it doesn't do it for me.

anyone digging here digging "schack tati" ? can't believe it's been 9 years since "thanks...".
lacking the pastoral balance we had on "thanks..." but kicking out the post-rephlex prog-fusionisms like not much else. buoyant as ever
