taking off from the "Pink Floyd vs. Joy Division" thread -- the "transitional" record for each of these bands after each had lost their charismatic yet troubled front-men and before either had settled into the musical sounds and lyrical themes that would dominate the respective roger waters (pink floyd) or bernard sumner (new order) eras.

and before some wise guy pipes up, yes i am aware that syd barrett is on a few of the songs on saucerful of secrets. it's still a fair competition since new order had some joy division-era songs on movement.

SoS for me

there's lots of new order that I think of as leagues better than most pink floyd but movement isn't so hot imo. saucerful on the other hand is nice. I'll take power corruption and lies over meddle or the more soundtrack tho

What would all those Krautrock bands have sounded like if Floyd hadn't recorded SoS?

movement isn't great, whereas i really like some of the tracks on saucerful of secrets, particularly 'set the controls...' and 'remember a day'.

Crazy, "Movement isn't great"? I though that ILX had recognised that it was under rated. Movement wins against almost any album.

me and ILX are at odds over new order. it's a well documented saga :)

"Saucerful Of Secrets" is ace. "Movement" also a good album, but still not in the same league.

new order had some joy division-era songs on movement.

I don't think so.

No, I didn't think so either.

God, I dunno.

I did have Movement, but didn't get any of it (not being a JD fan), although I did 'get' the single(s)...

Saucer, I like the Syd tracks, but I cannae remember any of the rest of it.

Still, Youtube did(does?) provide access to the least likely video ever, the one for "Jug band blues"...

I was listening to Saucerful today, and kind of thinking the same thing...SoS/Umagumma/Atom Heart Mother is kind of their proto-Krautrock period isn't it?
