'in my house'

K DEF FROM REAL LIVE (deej), Monday, 22 December 2008 07:00 (5 years ago) Permalink

"in my house" is pretty awesome and so's "into the coven" and "trashed" is one of the best non-ozzy sabbath songs ever, very weird and awesome

"dress you up" my favorite Madonna song, period

"sugar walls" is good too

don't think any of these persuasively beat any of the others

Part of the cool thing/problem with "Trashed" is that the video actually lived up to what parent feared about MTV.

I voted Madonna because Tipper seemed to hate her so much.

Sugar Walls way out in front of the pack in terms of 0_o lyrical content and actual pop appeal. Hot pop tart relentlessly begging the listener to "come inside my sugar walls"? I mean, come on, it doesn't get any more WTF than that, though She Bop runs a close second (my actual favorite song on this list). In My House a distant third, more cuz of love for it than for actually freaking squares. And Big Black cover rules, one of the best things they ever did. Also Darling Nikki (what, no Little Red Corvette?). AC/DC, Mercyful Fate and Venom seem somewhat out of place here, as you expect that sort of thing from them. Plus, props to U.S. Senate for even being aware of Venom in 1985 The ears on those guys...

"Darling Nikki" started the whole crusade.

Do any of the Gore daughters have kids yet? I bet they'll listen to Prince with them in the car and not even think twice.

this is a pretty awesome 80s mixtape

For years I visualized a rolled up magazine and wondered just how that would work.

Me too.

I voted "Fuck Like a Beast" because it was the only one of the songs specifically designed to make a list like this.

I chanced to hear "Get into the Groove" the other day and reflected that it is way dirtier than "Dress You Up." "I'm tired of dancing here all by myself / tonight I wanna dance with someone else."

And just what is this "groove"? Is it anything like sugar walls?

"She Bop" is my favorite of these; love the synth bass.

Ye Mad Puffin, Monday, 22 December 2008 17:53 (5 years ago) Permalink

lol "Let Me Put My Love Into You" - only one very flimsy step removed from WASP's refreshing lack of pretense.

"Darling Nikki" for me.

what about the Mentors?

[SOLO: MICHAEL]

Howl like a wolf
And a witch will open the door
Follow me and meet our High Priestess

Come, come into my Coven
And become Lucifer's Child

[SOLO: MICHAEL]

Undress until you're naked
And put on this white coat
Take this white cross and go to the middle of the ring

Come, come into my Coven
And become Lucifer's Child

[SOLO: HANK & MICHAEL]

Suck the blood from this unholy knife
Say after me: my soul belongs to Satan

Now, now you're into my Coven
You are Lucifer's Child
Into the Coven
Lucifer's Child

I don't see what's so objectionable about this song. Sounds like yr standard Catholic ritual to me.

what could be objectionable about "we're not gonna take it?"

Dee Snider wondered the same, in Congressional testimony so hot it inspired its own ILM poll.

I hated voting against "Into the Coven" but "In My House" really is the best jam on this list.

I'm a little tired of "In My House" -- our eighties station never stops playing it -- but it's still a good song. Voted for "She-Bop" over "Dress You Up" and "Darling Nikki." As for "Sugar Walls," I prefer "Strut."

"Eat Me Alive" because of the fact that Judas Priest fans STILL didn't figure out that Rob Halford was gay after hearing this song.

I've been after hearing this for years!

I'll bet if we did this poll now, the metal tracks would make a better showing than the 29-8 drubbing it took five-plus years ago.
