what don't you like? is it the singing or the lyrics? i think the instrumentation is pretty good for tinny toy keyboards and cheap drum machines

the fact that i've been getting 500 dreadful Casiotone For The Painfully Boring home-made "poptronica" records from collegey dorkuses in my mailbox for 7 years now and these guys are getting blown by every website in existence even though they don't differ from any of that shit in any way shape or form except for the bare minimal amount of trendy MGMT textures and the fact that dude processes his vocals to sound like Xiu Xiu.

i dunno i just kinda feel like Air France better meets my needs for this type of music

i feel you whiney, but i get the hype about "sleepyhead" and "i've got your number" + these songs are more fleshed out than bedroom lap-pop stuff. plus imo the guy can write pretty good hooks

i wouldn't get too worked up though i mean who's gonna care about these guys after their album comes out? tokyo police club/black kids etc. (passion pit haven't even shown up in SPIN yet!!)

the new single is good i think but it's just too much, the guy singing hooks is the best part of their songs not the beats

i guess ill be the only one to post ITT but i'm still anticipating this album for when im feeling especially emo

I like "The Reeling". I think the vocals get the right mix of intentionally-twee-happiness and a kind of solemn seriousness.

I've been listening to the album. Not a lot sticks out that much yet, but they're by no means awful.

Saw them live a few weeks back. Boundless energy from both them and the crowd. Surprisingly, "Sleepyhead" was probably one of the weakest moments live. Something about it doesnt quite translate to the full-band + crowd atmosphere It's miles beyond their other material, but exists in this hermetic alien universe. Still, A++ show.

just listened to the album tonight. It's stylish. I think I'm going to love it.

on a side note, the "electronic" (when refering to pop/rock), or "poptronica" tags are going to bug the shit out of me for the next couple years coming.

how about "dancetronica," or "hip-hop-tronica?" I know. Dumb.

I dig "Little Secrets" a lot.

I never got round to listening to Manners but the new one is pretty great. 'Hudson Mohawke producing The Antlers' sounds awful but that's my instinct. Also, I believe I haven't knowingly heard a single thing by these guys/that dude, but the interview isn't inspiring me offhand. But almost sounds like this band is the John the Baptist to the twin headed beast of Foster the People and fun. off slouching towards Bethlehem.

"Constant Conversations" begs to be covered by an actual R&B singer. The rest doesn't do much for me.

i hear this band on mersh alt-rock radio SO much more than their chart peaks would indicate. it took me forever to realize they had 2 different popular singles because it all sounds the same to me.

"Carried Away" ugh okay this is nowhere near as appealing to me as Manners so far, I would prefer it if dude went back to his screechy falsetto as that might make this song something beyond a cloying ball of nothing

I hear lots of sonic similarities to the Jonsi solo album.

I don't know, I liked it OK. Didn't love it. And I listened to a few songs of 'Manners' and decided I didn't need to hear more.

Wasn't expecting to like this so much---I assumed Manners tapped them for everything they had---but this new album is great. That closing minute of the final track has floored me every time I hear it.

Maybe I should try again but I loved Manners on first listen; this new one is just too... precious for me.

The thing I liked so much about Manners was the juxtaposition of sleekness with rough, particularly in the interplay between vocals and backing music but also in how the backing music was constructed (all those buzzy synths especially); Gossamer is a little too on-the-nose wrt its title and, as a result, DO NOT WANT

I can't believe they command 40$ for their concert. I've seen Wilco at the same venue for less than that.

They really were a huge deal at Lolla. I was camped out at that stage for Sabbath after them, and was pretty blown away by how popular they were. They sounded terrible from where I was sitting though, awful and screeching.

They are hugely popular with the 16/24 years old audience. Not that it is problem, just something I noticed.
