Albums that you THOUGHT were going to be brilliant within the opening 20 seconds of the first track, but actually....

There are way too many albums where this seems true on first listen and turns out to be false. So I question the use of the word "know."

I see that "Dream Academy" by Dream Academy does indeed start with "Life In a Northern Town", which is a song that fits perfectly with that question.

I know there are those who feel otherwise about this but my most sincere addition to this thread is Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies The American Metaphysical Circus.

Fleet Foxes OTM.

No, I knew that was going to be crap from second one.

I call for Fleet Foxes to be banned from the BBC since I was gravely offended by their performance on Jools last week.

four months pass...

Medicine - Shot Forth Self Living (sorry Brad, if yr out there, I know you post here sometimes). I still think "One More" stands with the best moments of 'gaze, MBV included, and man, what an opening build. Some of the other tracks are pretty good, and some are merely bland, but none deliver on the promise of "One More."

That last Blitzen Trapper album.. although it's not bad, but it's not exactly brilliant either.

We got VHS or Beta's "Bring On The Comets" at the radio station two summers ago, and the opening track was so kick ass. And then the track stagnated before it even finished and the rest of the album sucked.
