I imagine it'll be pretty different to the previous Amelia bands considering that Peter Momtchiloff (?) isn't involved..

This new incarnation is seriously lacking the spark, mostly because three rather important aspects of MR are missing: Lead Guitar work, Keyboard work and Backing vocals. Their performance on Saturday night was a very noisy and chugging fair - plodding even - like seeing Amelia w/ only a rhythm section. I bought that new CD thingy anyway, but haven't listened to it yet.

Then again, we're playing with them in two weeks, so I'll let you know what the live experience is like.

It's been over 3 years since the wonderful "6 Billion People". I see from their myspace site that they've got some new songs, anyone know when an album is due?

don't know about an album but the new single 'fireworks' has been out for a couple of weeks now. can't say i think much of it tbh. they could really stand to work with a decent producer, it feels like there's a not half bad song in there struggling to get out of the dull as dishwater arrangement

I haven't heard the new single yet but will probably seek it out because I do love Amelia. I'm happy that she continues to write songs and record stuff.
With Tender Trap I feel like there is a lot of talent but maybe not enough creative sparks and energy to really make an effort to transcent their own legacy, their various imitators etc. They have nothing to prove, are unlikely to make a breakthrough at this point and from recent interviews it seems that they don't really have that motivation any more. With Heavenly, it almost seemed like their time had come and they really tried with the last two albums to make them as appealing as possible with hopes of finding a new audience. After that tactic failed it's been downhill all the way.

yeah. there have definitely been shining moments post-heavenly but they are getting fewer and further between. amelia still has a great voice, maybe she should do some solo records like that dance one that fierce put out

That one is the perfect example of when she was acting ultra-ambitious and trying to be commercial. I think she is embarrased by it now. The "Tender Trap" brand is not as recognised as her own name and should be binned. I would like to see her doing a very basic solo album and touring with a small but decent band performing stuff from all her phases. That would be perfect for me.

Tender Trap is no more. Amelia and Rob are now The Catenary Wires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=TcafMOv5K-U
