I don't expect I'll buy or hear any of these, except maybe AC/DC.

Actually, I think a ton of these look promising (not Los Campesinos, though, all respect to J0rdan (and Dom)). You're right, we are in the summer doldrums, so it's good to see promising new releases on the horizon.

Also, how about new discs by: Lindsey Buckingham; Matthew Herbert; Lee Perry; Lindstrom; Brian Wilson, Serena-Maneesh; Michael Jackson (I think); Giant Sand; Missy Eliot (again, I think); and Carl Newman (of TNP; again, I think). Anyway, lots to look forward to in the fall.

It is nice to have something to look forward to. Does anyone avoid listening to a leak just to enjoy the pleasure of anticipation of release day for old time's sake? I try to now and then. For the the spirit of this poll, it might be more fun if those who have heard promos or leaks avoid talking about them. This can't be enforced of course, but just a suggestion, just as people who discuss movies try to have the courtesy not to blurt out spoilers. We could venture guesses as to what an album might be like not having heard anything yet.

I loved the last AC/DC actually, but have a pretty idea what the new one will sound like, heh. Curious about Cure and Metallica but not excited. Looking forward to Annie, Deerhunter, Dungen, Fujiya & Miyagi, Grace Jones, TVOTR. I'm slightly nervous the latter will slip into a sort of generic 4AD sort of ambient soundscape rut. But if they keep evolving, maybe rock out some, I'll be pleased.

I don't know what's coming out third quarter and what's coming out fourth quarter. Colby O'Donis, Keri Hilson and Ryan Leslie are fall, right? Them! Also, Brainwasher hasn't replied yet, but I'll second his Jazmine Sullivan answer.

Lindstrøm is out in just a few days. I consider August summer still, and people are more likely to have already heard leaks. Also out soon is Don Caballero, Max Richter, Stereolab, Brian Eno/David Byrne and The Stills.

I do this all the time. Hard to avoid hearing leaks/singles with mainstream rap, but with most other stuff I don't download much, and sometimes I won't bother hearing leaks and will just cop the CD when it's in stores and just digest it all at once the old-fashioned way.

the Cure (13) has a title? looking forward to Raised Up because i'm very impressed those first few single. didn't really like too much about the last album but they could be back.

Of Montreal is right there as well, have no idea which direction they will actually go. love that first single.

Deerhoof should be at least interesting. I didn't like Cookie Mountain so much, but TVOTR has earned at least another try. Annie and Grace Jones should be fun.

I tried that Deerhunter album, but, man, it's just not something I'm going to remember in a month or two. I liked Cryptograms OK, but thought it was kinda mushy. Instead of trimming things down, like I'd kind of hoped they would, they went bigger and more bombastic, sounding similar to Sigur Ros. As I listened to it, I kinda felt like, "Oh, great, an American answer to Elbow." Pretty, but more starch than protein.

Always interested in hearing new TVOTR. Those voices just do it for me.

I was well aware that I left off a number of obscure and not so obscure releases. It was intentional, as people have complained about polls with too many choices. It's certainly not all indie, with plenty of metal and mainstream. There's no rap/hip-hop simply because I didn't know of any big ones coming up. By all means please mention those I missed.

But to say there's not a single album on the list not worth looking forward to, that's just typical reactionary poseur b.s. that should be beneath you.

I don't where you get the idea there's any affectation involved. It's not even that long a list of albums, so it shouldn't be surprising that some people aren't excited by any of it.

You're just lucky there's no longer brick & mortar stores where you could be busted waiting in line at midnight for the Keane release.

I do miss the neighborhood Tower. I hazily remember seeing someone play a sort of late in-store, and then noticing people were forming a line. Turned out it was to be the first to buy Bjork's Homogenic, so I hopped in. I'd do that again, but I'd have to stop reading all the boards and music blogs as soon as the TVOTR is leaked so I'm not burned out by the hype, the dissections, and dismissals long before the release.

Like Radiohead, looks like Bloc Party is trying to avoid pre-release burnout with a sneak attack, with the surprise release of <a href=http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/08/18/bloc-party-announce-surprise-new-album-intimacy-due-august-21st/>;Intimacy</a>. Problem is the single "Mercury" is not that great, so I won't be buying this unheard.

I didn't see The Grails, High Places, Jay Reatard, Crystal Antlers, Parenthetical Girls on that list. The upcoming Howling Hex album could be worth hearing.

OTM, this is the biggest drawback to most music forums on the internet. If you happen to be one of the few that waits to hear an album on/through its official release, you might have trouble finding someone to talk about it with on many forums. They'll have already moved on to the next high profile leak and be "so over" that one that leaked 4 months ago.

Really? Doomsdayer's Holiday came out in May? Guess their promos are pretty late. Somebody should tell the band, so they can abandon their plans to tour in November on it.

Crystal Antlers, I'll give you (mostly because it was easy enough to already buy a copy of the EP at any of their bazillion shows) and (as far as I know) it's just a re-issue. Jay Reatard's a reissue too, but I haven't heard a fair number of those singles, so I'm looking forward to it.

High Places have been touring pretty solidly for the last year or so too, which is why it's easy to anticipate their album.

But, y'know, fuck you anyway. You got all huffy when (GASP) people aren't that excited about Keane and the Kaiser Chiefs? Half the albums on your list are perfunctory entries from bands that barely justify googling +rapidshare. And to get all pissily dismissive of people who don't really care what the hell Robert Smith is up to these days as "cooler-than-thou" is reflexive poptimist relativism.

I don't like Keane and Kaiser Chiefs either, but I included them to keep lurking pop fans happy, and Hongro who is brave enough to not give a damn what pseudo-hipsters think. There's enough variety in that list that it's hard to believe anyone who likes music enough to be on this board full of anal-retentive persnickety crabcakes couldn't find one album they'd like to hear.

Crystal Antlers and High Places sound like they're probably great bands, but I'd guess you could count the number of people reading this thread who have seen their shows on one hand. I picked bands who already released albums and have fans who anticipate their next album.

In that list I am excited about Wilderness, (and of course Of Montreal's official release date).

I think we were spoiled in 2007 with good music, I don't see 2008 pulling off any last minute victories.

kind of excited for Simon Bookish, Max Tundra and Kanye.

On the "halfway through 2008" thread, I was complaining that there didn't seem to be too much good music this year - don't find that's true anymore. It's more like, all the ones I've anticipated have turned out to be pretty disappointing but on the whole, there's just been so much excellent music that's hit me sideways from all sorts of unexpected corners.
