Bee OK, would you do a final showdown deathmatch poll between the #1 vote-getters from each CD?

-- dad a, Monday, 28 July 2008 02:32 (Yesterday)

Vol. 1 gets three songs with 8 votes each. Vol. 2 gets two songs with 7 votes each. Vol. 3 number one had 8 votes. While Vol. 4 number one had 4 votes. Poll will last five days.

i wanted, so badly, to include the number two's. this poll, however, just needed to be the best vs. the best.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 06:06 (seventeen years ago)

i went for 7&7 but it i could just have easily gone for pushin' if i was in a more agressive mood.

elevators

None of these are the best of their respective albums, but this is Electric Prunes.

Thanks for running this, Bee OK! Tempted by Strychnine for the sentiment (why waste time with drugs, choose your poison), the cartoon evil opening, and the best scream of the bunch among stiff competition. But somehow the Nuggets #1 should be something more psychedelic, not pure protopunk. So tossup between Elevators and Electric Prunes. You're Gonna Miss Me makes crazy elements work (psych harmonica? and whatever that wakakwakawaka thing is?) but I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night captures the peaks and valleys perfectly, constantly fluctuating between stomping and introspective doldrums. Electric Prunes, for blending form and content.

The Ramones version of "7 and 7 is" is fine, but they don't do the ending (past the explosion) for some reason...

Mark G, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 08:15 (seventeen years ago)

i voted for none of these songs in the original poll. i wrote, Vol. 2 gets two songs with 7 votes each: so it has to be "7 And 7 Is" by Love.

Bee OK, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 08:17 (seventeen years ago)

xpost: maybe because it's anticlimactic and therefore superfluous by Ramones standards?

dad a, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 08:20 (seventeen years ago)

Strychnine for straight up being one of the greatest songs in in the knowable universe.

Oh good typing dude.

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 11:25 (seventeen years ago)

If I'm gonna go by dad a's criteria, though, I am for whatever reason drawn to Voices Green And Purple by the Bees, which isn't an option, and I guess I don't really see most people going for it as "best song". Failing that, The Trip by Kim Fowley-- seems like a really conscious attempt to appeal to the niche this box is focused on, but y'know, so is pretty much the rest of the box, so uh...

A bunch of my favorite songs are nowhere near this poll, so I guess ultimately my 2nd pick in this one is the Prunes... but god they're all so good...

RabiesAngentleman, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 12:07 (seventeen years ago)

The Third Bardo! I'm a bit surprised, though, that they swept their respective poll since few mentioned voting for them.

Anyhoo, come on, people! "I'm Five Years Ahead Of My Time" should win by default. Unlike the other six here (or maybe all of Nuggetdom), it needs friends, well-wishers, and proselytizers.

Thirteenth Floor Elevators is the best here, but strangely none of these songs are my Nuggets-favourites.

zeus, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:56 (seventeen years ago)

of the options listed, gotta go with Roky

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 July 2008 15:59 (seventeen years ago)

Third Bardo vs Elevators. Not sure I can choose, aargh.
