POLL: Neil Young - Decade (Disc 1)

One poll made it too impossible. Thought about making three polls, one for each LP of the original issue, but this'll do for a compromise.

This one is the tough one for me -- it could go seven different ways.

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 10 May 2008 02:46 (fifteen years ago) link

very tempted by "burned," but had to go with "down by the river"

Assport OTM

went for the burned out basement full moon in his eye sun burst through the sky one in the end

Am I alone in thinking that Sugar Mountain is one of Youngy's prettiest sounding moments. Reminds me, in feel, of 'pardon My Heart' off Zuma.

Lilting loveliness from the grizzly lumberjacker. I'm not a great lyric man. The words are probably about death?

Fer Ark, Saturday, 10 May 2008 07:06 (fifteen years ago) link

Down by the River, but only because there 6 minutes more of it than Cinnamon Girl.

SeekAltRoute, Saturday, 10 May 2008 07:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Fer Ark - I always read Sugar Mountain as the opposite of death. "Can't be 20" means no adults allowed. That's why he's thinkin' that he's leavin' there too soon. I heard Neil wrote this when he was 18 or something.

It's "After the Gold Rush" for me, quite possibly the loveliest melody in all of rock.

Down By The River

Is it wrong to prefer the Live Rust versions of songs 6-8?

I voted for "Cowgirl in the Sand."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 10 May 2008 14:40 (fifteen years ago) link

No, it's not wrong at all, I quite agree even.

StanM, Saturday, 10 May 2008 14:43 (fifteen years ago) link

'sugar mountain' with 'burned' a close second

Michael B, Sunday, 11 May 2008 20:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Finally decided on "Expecting to Fly," but if I get another vote at it later in the week I'll vote for "Down by the River."

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 11 May 2008 23:02 (fifteen years ago) link

Cinnamon Girl. Down by the River is way overrated.

gabbneb, Sunday, 11 May 2008 23:04 (fifteen years ago) link

down by the river for sure

Charlie Howard, Monday, 12 May 2008 07:35 (fifteen years ago) link

Gotta be "Down By The River". Although with tight competition from "Expecting To Fly".

Geir Hongro, Monday, 12 May 2008 07:45 (fifteen years ago) link

Cowgirl.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Monday, 12 May 2008 08:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Hard choice. After the Gold Rush.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 15 May 2008 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 16 May 2008 23:01 (fifteen years ago) link

wow - pretty harsh result for some of those tracks in the bottom half (but maybe that's because not too many people voted?)

StanM, Saturday, 17 May 2008 06:50 (fifteen years ago) link

I thought 65+ votes for each poll was a pretty good turnout!
