Jazzbo, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Performance/Shakes 12" wins. i'll say Shakes just to be stubborn.

brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Gosh, this is a tough one. I mean, hell.

Bimble, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah impossible

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 16:59 (fifteen years ago) link

Impossible, but if I *HAD* to pick one, it just might be "OK This is The Pops!"

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 6 May 2008 18:38 (fifteen years ago) link

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Oooh tricky stuff. <3 for this poll C.

Trayce, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:20 (fifteen years ago) link

Can't decide between "Christian Says" and "You, the Night and the Music". "Go!" will win even though I'm a bit sick of it.

Trayce, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 23:21 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe rain. maybe lions. yeah, i can't choose. love it all so much.

J0hn D., Wednesday, 14 May 2008 00:08 (fifteen years ago) link

Went with "Christian Says," but could be plenty of others on any given day.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 01:14 (fifteen years ago) link

"OK This is the Pops."

This album is the awesomest.

Tones on Tail > goth

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 03:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Let me state here that I am the first member of and founder of the gothtimist movement.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 03:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Will rehab goth in the eyes of rockists and gay dance men everywhere.

libcrypt, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 03:15 (fifteen years ago) link

everything by this band is awesome but "Rain" definitely one of the coolest songs I've ever heard.

had to go with "War" but haven't played them in forever.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 06:01 (fifteen years ago) link

I always pref'd Tones on Tail to Love & Rockets to be honest.

Trayce, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 06:08 (fifteen years ago) link

it's strange for me to think of these songs as individual songs, if that makes any sense

Lions at 45rpm.

No one voted for Now We Lustre or There's Only One! Oh the horror. I admit I didn't vote, though.

Bimble, Wednesday, 14 May 2008 23:49 (fifteen years ago) link

two years pass...

nowadays I would totally vote "A Bigger Splash"

this seems to be the only Tones on Tail thread.

Weird Pop is a 2011 19-track double LP features all of Tones On Tail’s crucial tracks including most of the Pop album, the best songs from Tones On Tail EP, and the singles ‘Go!’, ‘Twist’, plus ‘Christian Says’. This new compilation brings back the classic vinyl sound and includes previously undiscovered rarities like the original (some say better) version of ‘Performance’, a never before released studio version of ‘Heartbreak Hotel’, the single edit of ‘Go!’, plus an extended version of ‘Twist’.

I'm devastated at the relative shittiness of the studio "Heartbreak Hotel"

Doctor Madame Frances Experimento LLC (SNM), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 07:26 (twelve years ago) link

Have yet to hear this band, but I always hear their name to the tune of "Girls on Film".

This is really working with my mood lately (ie kind of fractured, with a leak in the ceiling and a load of mould in the corners, lit by a bare bulb)

so looking forward to exploring their catalog again when they come up in the Bauhaus poll, sometime in 2016? right now my mind set is that Love and Rockets is much better but will see who gets more songs into that poll.

Bee OK, Sunday, 14 July 2013 02:53 (ten years ago) link

how the hell did "performance" manage only 1 vote? such a jam!

LeRooLeRoo, Sunday, 14 July 2013 19:12 (ten years ago) link

Performance is my favorite too.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 14 July 2013 23:27 (ten years ago) link

Performance sounds like New Order if they weren't sort of terrible.

I have no idea what you meant, and yet, I'm still infuriated by your reply.

Fucking italics tag.

You know what I meant to do there.

Austin, Monday, 15 July 2013 05:37 (ten years ago) link

Performance/Shakes is mine now as well, as somehow I'd never paid it much attention back then (fuckknows how).

It's the middle of summer. Time to binge on Tones on Tail again. They seem to be one of the ultimate summer bands for me, which makes zero sense. "Happiness" is an anomaly in the ToT repertoire, but nothing sounds better at half past 2am.

looks like i was right on track, lol.

i do hope to open the Bauhaus-Love and Rockets/Tones on Tail poll in the beginning of 2016, don't think i can jump that many places to make it this year.

So anyway, Daniel and Kevin and Kevin's daughter aka the artist Diva are touring as Poptone -- it's as close to a Tones on Tail show as I'll ever see! Playing tonight here in SF, heard good things from friends who have seen earlier shows. Supposedly also playing Bauhaus and L&R cuts too, and why not.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 7 June 2017 19:11 (six years ago) link

ned how was the show? thinking about going to see them in a couple weeks

adam, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 19:25 (six years ago) link

Quite great! "Slice of Life" from Bauhaus, a few L&R cuts as noted but otherwise near wall-to-wall ToT, and it was lovely finally hearing all those songs live. About the only song I wanted to be on the set list was "Real Life" but they pretty much did everything else one way or another -- hell, they even started with "Heartbreak Hotel"!

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 July 2017 20:19 (six years ago) link

excellent! thanks for the info. it's the same night as converge/neurosis so it is a tough decision indeed

adam, Wednesday, 19 July 2017 13:36 (six years ago) link

Well think of it this way -- Converge and Neurosis have been around, releasing albums, steady veterans. But you may never get a chance to see this lineup do these songs ever beyond this.
