the terms, conditions and limitations of the interface seem to put this well within the realm of fair use. if for any reason the riaa came to him he could just shut down an offending user's subdomain. you aren't sharing files, and you can't upload an album, and you're limited to 12 tracks. people will try to fuck with it and he can just pop the accounts.

― fukasaku tollbooth, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:23 (eighteen years ago)
can someone point me to a thread or a remotely informative article about the streaming royalties deal?
― El Tomboto, Thursday, 27 March 2008 20:26 (eighteen years ago)
Here's the thing Tom: there isn't one presently. It's because there isn't one that the site will be shut down since the folks behind it won't be able to play whack-a-mole on what's legal and what's not.
If you search any article related to Pandora or any other site that involves streaming royalties you'll find that these payments may crush streaming music as we know it.

I'm using FF3 and can't get muxtape to work (and never could on earlier FF either). I have adblock and noscript installed, but have muxtape allowed in noscript, but still no joy. I get a little flash icon at the bottom of a mix page, but clicking on it doesn't get me anywhere. Is there something I'm missing?
― krakow, Saturday, 2 August 2008 06:44 (seventeen years ago)
there's something on the muxtape blog about the new version of firefox having problems. doesn't work at all with new opera, either, and i'm guessing nobody gives a shit at either opera or muxtape.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Saturday, 2 August 2008 07:06 (seventeen years ago)
I hadn't ever looked at the blog, thanks.
From Jul 8th:
Adblock We recently got a bug report that helped us determine that Adblock (a popular Firefox extension) has a tendency to interfere with Muxtape. If you’re having problems with Firefox and you have Adblock installed (even if it’s disabled) it just might be the culprit. We’ll try to figure out a workaround.
But sadly there's no follow-up yet.

Since I can't seem to get this to work for me (I'm not keen to remove adblock/no-script, or to try IE), how is it supposed to work, so that I know where to focus my frustrated clicking? The individual songs seem like they should be clickable, but then there's also this flash doohickey down at the bottom of the screen...
― krakow, Sunday, 3 August 2008 07:25 (seventeen years ago)
Weird, I use FF version 2.0.0.16 with Adblock Plus, and the it works fine with me. I haven't even disabled Adblock for the Muxtape site.

again and again and again: dutronc, blue rondos, sheridan & price, the cedars, charles lloyd, clapham junction, dry ice, serge franklin, jan panter, one in a million, american blues (pre-pre-zz top), danny mcculloch. i love the mcculloch tune, in fact, it's so chilled out. he was the bassist for the best period of the animals, the ridiculous pseudo-psych period, a left to do a mellow solo album.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Sunday, 3 August 2008 12:46 (seventeen years ago)
I started out trying to make one for the "post your faves muxtape" thread but then I realized it was an impossible task and I'd end up leaving out too many songs, so here's my half-done, not-all-favourites one.

― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Sunday, 3 August 2008 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
I got inspired by the "Pure Moodz" thread on board 77, so I decided to do another Muxtape. I've always been intrigued by the idea of "authenticity" and "inauthenticity" in music, especially regarding "world music" genres, which some people seem to think are inexplicably tied to ethnicity. So I did a muxtape of songs which freely (ab)use musical ideas from other cultures: you have Finns doing reggae and bossa nova, Swiss imitating Afro-Cuban music, "traditional" music mixed with modern electronic sounds, Moroccan reggae, a Jamaican singer performing a pseudo-European tune, etc...
http://nexinexim.muxtape.com/
1. Yello - La Habanera
2. State of Bengal - Taki Naki
3. Sapho - Ya Habib
4. Herbie Hancock - Karabali
5. Paarma feat. Papa Zai - Ihmisten liike
6. Busi Mhlongo - Yehlisan'Umoya Ma-Afrika
7. Carola - Maria Maria
8. Burhan Öçal & Jamaaladeen Tacuma - Groove Alla Turca
9. Baden Powell - Marcha escocesa

I completely changed my other muxtape too, now it's a gayish disco/synth pop/electro mix.
1) Herbie Hancock - Tell Everybody 2) The J.B.'s - Rock Groove Machine 3) Patrick Cowley - Menergy (12" Version) 4) Yello - Vicious Games (12" Mix) 5) Bronski Beat - I Feel Love (Medley with Marc Almond) 6) Magazine 60 - Don Quichotte (Extended Version) 7) Rockers Revenge - Walking on Sunshine (12" Mix) 8) Nona Hendryx - Too Hot to Handle 9) Grace Jones - Driving Satisfaction 10) Planet Patrol - Don't Tell Me 11) Marc Almond - Jacky 12) Shakespear's Sister - Dirty Mind (E-Zee Remix)
― Tuomas, Sunday, 17 August 2008 07:59 (seventeen years ago)
I was kinda blown away by that J.B.'s tune when I got the record... The tune is from 1979, but it totally feels like proto-house, complete with a modulating synth squeal that sounds kinda like a 303. (Though obviously it can't be a 303, since it was only released three years later.)
