OK, you have to be British and of a certain age to remember any of these (complete with accompanying weird TV adverts) but in any case...

Good poll!

For track for track quality, and for happy memories of car journeys around Harpenden, it's got to be EMTV 3. Hangs together well as an album, too. Great advert as well. EMTV 19 and 8 and 11 close behind.

And what ones have you owned. For me, have owned at various times = Shadows, Beach Boys, Glen Campbell, Manfred Mann, Neil Diamond.

Shadows one is best introduction to them ever, best selection.

I had the Frank Sinatra one.

My vote has to go to the Beatles at the Bowl since the screams-plus-bonus-music make the Fabs sound like prototype Mary Chain.

Yeah.

Is that the most recent album to have got to number one and yet has not been reissued on CD?

Mark G, Tuesday, 25 March 2008 10:53 (5 years ago) Permalink

Various Artists comps aside, it probably is in terms of never actually having been released on CD.

Most (all?) of the PWM Kylie and Jason albums which went to number one are currently out of print but they were definitely available on CD at the time.

Voted for Diana Ross and the Supremes as it's the only one I own on the original vinyl.

Also have the first Cliff one on 2xCD, which probably has the best cover art (although the Supremes one is good too). Amazing that some of these are still "in print" on CD.

I wonder if anyone will dare to confess to (their parents) owning EMTV 7?

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:15 (5 years ago) Permalink

If that's "Oh, dem golden slippers" country, then no.

Mark G, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:21 (5 years ago) Permalink

The frankly bizarre cover and tracklisting for EMTV 16.

Dingbod Kesterson, Wednesday, 26 March 2008 10:32 (5 years ago) Permalink

If that's "Oh, dem golden shifting whispering sands and a dead moose" Country, then no.

Ghost of Eamonn Andrews to thread.
