Wow, has it really been (half of) a year? The nominations process for the ILX 2007 ALBUMS & TRAX POLL (which, btw, like all year-end polls needs a decent nickname) is basically the same as last: you can nominate up to 15 albums AND/OR tracks. 15 tracks, 14 albums and 1 track, 3 tracks and 4 albums, 1 track, etc.
Guidelines: -The noms in question had to have had a fairly significant release (or re-release) in 2007. -Album tracks on albums released in 2007 qualify -Tracks on albums released in 2006 that were singles in 2007 qualify -Tracks on albums released in 2007 that are going to be singles in 2008 do not qualify, save 'em for the next one
Timeline: You can make your nominations anytime before 2008. I don't think nominations need that much time but I'd rather not start the voting process during the holiday, so I will draw this out a bit. I'll attempt to kick-off the voting within a few days of the start of the new year, and maybe have everything wrapped up in January (the impossible dream).
Any ideas/advice/etc are welcome!

Disagree there were albums that were begging to be included last year, and i made the case for a wild card sweep-up at the end. Which sadly wasn't implemented, some late stragglers said they would have voted for those albums.
― djmartian, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:07 (sixteen years ago) link
xpost
Now until 2008: nominations. Every album and track that receives a single nomination is put on a list, and when voting time comes around, only items on the list are eligible to be voted for. This isn't the actual voting, but just a way of creating a common pool of candidates for the sake of having a decent poll that, like I was saying above, isn't spread too thin.
An album or song only needs one nomination to be placed on the ballot. Obviously, if something has been nominated already there's no point in nominating it again.
First couple weeks of Jan: voting. I'll compile a list of all eligible nominees, post it in the voting thread, and then have everyone email me directly with their votes. I'll post detailed info about the voting process when the time comes.
― musically, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:18 (sixteen years ago) link
Thanks for doing this, seems like a lot of work to collect nominees and votes.
― Paul in Santa Cruz, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:24 (sixteen years ago) link
er ... nominations and votes
― Paul in Santa Cruz, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:25 (sixteen years ago) link
There are always going to be albums and tracks that miss getting a nomination, and people who pop up in the end who manage to miss the thread (even though it was bumped consistently for two weeks)...but based on the work I did adding up all the votes, I thought scaling things down a bit would make the poll more effective overall. Perhaps since this poll is a bit more timely than the last, there will be more nominees and voters, and the issue of having obvious candidates not included will be lessened this time around.
― musically, Tuesday, 18 December 2007 21:25 (sixteen years ago) link
Okay, I think I omitted a ton of stuff. I'll post an updated, hopefully complete draft in an hour or so. Meanwhile, you all can still point out any misspellings or non-2007 tracks if you see any.

Actually, I was right to not include it on the short list but wrong when I didn't post it earlier on Mordechai's list of tracks that didn't make the cut. I will add it to the final list though since it was my mistake.

I'm not sure how Amy Winehouse's Back To Black and Lily Allen's Alright Still count as 2007 albums. I would vote for them if this was a 2006 poll.
― Alba, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 22:35 (sixteen years ago) link
Jarvis, Lily and Amy are all 2006 releases in my mind but all had 2007 US releases - so let the Americans vote for them. Robyn's album was released way back in 2005 and it still counts.
What I'm confused about is "Justice - Justice"
― danzig, Wednesday, 2 January 2008 22:43 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah late-as-hell American releases means some albums get to take up precious list slots over and over! there's too much at stake for these shenanigans to continue. i shall vote for Robyn again not out of hypocrisy but rather to put these iniquities into stark relief.

surely there are going to be so many nominations in this forthcoming poll that the results are going to be fairly meaningless. there will be a smattering of votes for the usual suspects (in rainbows, kala, sound of silver etc...) and a load of individual votes for the likes of alasdair roberts (from me!).

Albums from 2007 that I listened to most in 2007:
Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha Apples In Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder Flight of the Conchords - Chaki's comp The Format - Dog Problems (Did Atlantic bury this record? I LOVE this album) Society of Rockets - Our Paths Related (so sue me) Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Justice - Justice (Not every track is great, but more than a few, so I'll just go with the album) Once - OST Spiritualized - Live at Boston MFA
