nobody?

jaxon, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:15 (5 years ago) Permalink

hadn't heard of him, seems okay based on his myspace stuff...kind of generic east coast dude w/maybe some kanye type flow/funny punchline stuff. i dunno, i wish he was as go-go influenced as the wikipedia thing says he is supposed to be...is he a big deal? i must be out of it...

M@tt He1ges0n, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:22 (5 years ago) Permalink

okay this last song ice cream girl has the go-go beat, that's pretty cool, reminds me of some old salt-n-pepa/EU type joint with kanye type dude rapping.

jaymc, Wednesday, 5 December 2007 23:27 (5 years ago) Permalink

i think his 100 Miles & Runnin' mixtape is rather easy to get a free copy of. there's a bit of go-go stuff on the tracks i heard, but it was mostly old beats. fader's totally on his nutz, but that doesn't really mean anything.

jaxon, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:13 (5 years ago) Permalink

what do you think

of these sorts of gimps i didn't mind 'party works' by this guy, but whatever really

if you call someone a "bloghop streetwear fashion rapper" do you think anybody is going to be fool enough to admit they know who he is?

moonship journey to baja, Thursday, 6 December 2007 00:34 (5 years ago) Permalink

he's actually pretty good. his flow goes back and forth between (better than) kanye's and nas', but the more i listened to his lyrics, i heard him talk about his raw denim and Cloak gear and all these other name brands. i dunno. i guess streetwear (i'm friends with diplo) rap is the next backpacker

Wale lives at home with his parents in my hometown of Bowie, Maryland, a DC suburb. Before Mark Ronson discovered him and Entertainment Weekly proclaimed him the big thing he was a DC rapper...

I'm not crazy about this guy and he's kind of a dick to other D.C. rappers, but he's definitely talented and way out of the league of Cool Kids or whatever. The Roots' faux go-go song w/ Wale on it is so much better than any Wale song with a go-go beat, but his token Baltimore club track is kinda fun.

I can understand being excited to be photographed with Jay-Z, but dude should really beware of being mistaken for Memphis Bleek:

I fast forward through the "Seinfeld" bits, but that mixtape is one of my favorite things this year.

i think i said this on another thread but he always sounds like he's recording immediately after he was awaken from a nap

that said i heard his "roc boys" freestyle and i guess he can flow aight but he seemed pretty lifeless even over that beat

haha yeah those fucking ads. like i said, he's not bad, and if i heard the whole mixtape i'd probably like it, but i'm sure he'll cross over to total corniness by the time his official shit with Mark Ronson comes out.

which of these rappers from xxl's "freshman 10 of 2009" are you the most sick of?

Wale spent an hour on D.C. radio yesterday hyping up the premiere of his new single which:

* features Lady Gaga

* is produced by Cool & Dre

* samples "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"

it was fun sticking up for you as one of the more defensible guys on the XXL cover for a few months, Wale! it was a good run while it lasted.
