let's not clown him too hard here, the only thing he's wrong about is the implication that Spank Rock isn't way way worse than the shit they're biting.
― Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 23 November 2007 04:12 (sixteen years ago) link
also that 2 live crew is bad.

Maybe it's my lack of knowledge about the world of contemporary hip-hop, but I really don't see why this is notable at all, other than to further the seemingly uncontested SPANK ROCK GOOD, EL-P BAD doctrine. Not that I like El-P, or dislike Spank Rock, but (and I'm talking about that video, not the thread) I mean it seems so pathetic to film interviews over a night and then present this 10 second video clip on this internet in a sort of "El-P in drunken Spank-Rock shit talking scandal!" I mean, he barely even criticized them, the whole uproar seems very much like an excuse to just go "Hey look, El-P is being an asshole again. . . what nerve to question Spank Rock!" I dunno, maybe he's trying to be iconoclastic, maybe he's not, maybe he was too drunk, maybe he is nothing more than an asshole, but he is more or less only stating a pretty fucking innocuous opinion.

― da croupier, Friday, 23 November 2007 15:42 (sixteen years ago) link
this is just a guess, mehlt, but I don't think it was deej's intention to further a SPANK ROCK GOOD, EL-P BAD doctrine with this thread.

You are crazy people. If you don't like unsigned artists and you are convinced they are inferior in talent and not super talented...then listen to Spank Rock who doesn't write her own music. I write hip hop music. I have some right now that I am going to record when I move into my new house. but you will not hear it...cause you love signed artists. I love music board is not a place for indie arists. I know where I am not wanted. all you ever do is insult me and say that I am not that great and how great signed artists are. So go buy Spank rock and. I don't care. If you think that all signed artists right now are the best.. I am not convince you otherwise. That is why I have taken my site down and started a new stage name. all you ever do is mock how I am not signed and how I am a rejected demo. O.k I guess record companies want their products to sell, and they want control of the net, and they don't like the fact that my writing blows these women away. I write all kinds hip hop... and ambient. You people are NOT cool.

This (Hurricane Chris) seems to lie a little more within the novelty rap category. The child-sampling nonsense poetry of the eponymous chorus is effectively counterbalanced by some fairly well-elocuted if sterile rapping in the verses. Again, efficiently done, but there's not much to get excited about here. As an unpleasant bonus, the backing track is simply appalling.
