Where can I buy the single??? Been feverishly anticipating this new band. Who's the drummer? Some nobody, I hope?

The drummer is named Kelly Halliburton, I don't think he's played with too many bands before and he is younger. He stayed at our house for a few days a year or two back when he was auditioning for The Detonators, super nice guy. You can buy the single from deadmoon.com for now but they have their own website also.
That show was like having Neil Young or John Fogerty do a gig in your local coffee shop, I swear. Just great.

The single RULES. Not worlds different that Dead Moon (like, who the hell wants THAT, anyway?), B-side is a KILLER, though - Toody lead vocal. Lovin' it!

i gotta get that single.

There's a "Live on KBOO - Drinking From Puddles" live radio set that's findable on slsk. Nice and ruff, approx. zero difference from the Dead Moon m.o. - they even do "Over the Edge".

Album is out. Sounds exactly like Dead Moon (literally, it is impossible to tell them apart without knowing ahead of time). Great stuff.

The LP is fucking awesome. RU OTM; it's pretty clearly Dead Moon. It seems like one of their best, too.

You have to admit that the drumming is different, though. I mean, dude has THREE cymbals!
― Trip Maker, Monday, 13 October 2008 14:00 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah, that is kinda bullshit.

I've said it on another thread in the last couple days, but the few Pierced Arrows shows I've seen were so, so good. Some friends who were opening for them at one just slayed a Dead Moon cover and now they're gonna be touring together I guess. Rad folx.

So I just watched Pierced Arrows play in a little theater at a high school in town. This teacher who does an Academy of Rock with local students is so geeked out on Dead Moon and Fred Cole that he put them on at the High School. Did a rad cover of "Mr Soul" and played a bunch of new shit that I suppose will be on their next lp (that they said was coming out in February). Also said that the third Rats lp is getting reissued by Mississippi as well as unreleased Range Rats stuff, too.

Ahhhhh, I'd love to hear that Range Rats stuff! And the new LP.
I've been listening to a Link Wray album called Shadowman, a later '90s one when he was playing through a big fuzzy Marshall, and there are tracks on here (Night Prowler in particular) where I find myself anticipating Fred or Toody's voice to pop up. I get genuinely confused!

Concur that Pierced Arrows rule live. If there's a rock and roll band you can dance and have a lot of fun to they're it.

(I mean most of the songs on that Link album are way too distinctly Link for me to make that mistake but I get reading stuff on the net and not paying attention and a track'll come on and I go 'did I download some weird long gone Dead Moon 7" wtf is this' and then I'll hear Link's voice instead of Toody's!)

Portland-based Pierced Arrows is a three-piece band comprised of legendary members Fred and Toddy Cole of the seminal punk band Dead Moon. We are pleased to announce their signing to VICE Records for the release of their sophomore LP Descending Shadows on February 2nd, 2010.

not loving the first two promo mp3s from the Vice album (Paranoia and Let It Rain)
the vocals sound weird. tempted to say it's recorded too cleanly but I'm not sure that's the whole problem

man...what a show....inspirational...all the pierced arrow songs were just like dead moon songs and really good...drummer was kicking ass too...
toody's bass tone is so fucking good...real "tubby"
do they get a weird gutter punk/hardcore crust crowd in other cities or just minneapolis?
pew! the place was really stinky...lots of facial tattoos and shit....actual most pit which was awesome, even crowd surfing...so weird that HXC peeps connect with a band that basically sounds like Neil Young fronting the Wipers playing "communication breakdown" by Led Zep.

They've got punk cred for miles.
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:20 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah but i guess i'm more just curious why crust ppl would love them so much, given that they pretty much sound nothing like any other bands those people like?
like it's COOL, really awesome actually....like most people their age play for like cross-armed record collector audiences (*cough* people like me *cough*) so it's cool to see all the people going crazy and spazzing out
― for HOOM the bell tolls (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:23 (fourteen years ago) link
Maybe it's cuz there from the northwest (where it seems like a lot of crust trends are born). I dunno, I just think it's great to see people older than my parents just fucking giving it their all. The last time I saw them was in a high school auditorium.
― Trip Maker, Thursday, 25 February 2010 17:28 (fourteen years ago) link
yeah like he is a total legend of music to me, even more now that i finally got to see it live.
they DEMOLISHED "Mr. Soul" by Buffalo Springfield.....daaaamn.
