As veteran users of this website (and veteran listeners) know, I haven’t produced new For The Record programs for more than a year.I reported that I had been obliged to suspend production due to the pressures of the day job. (I live an artist’s lifestyle, using paid employment to sustain myself while I do research, writing and program production.)
This was a necessary obfuscation, under the circumstances.
In reality, I was seriously ill. I have maintained my health very effectively over the years, on the balance.
I did let my dental health slide a bit, under the extreme pressures of the effort. A tooth became infected and the infection spread.
I had to have major oral surgery and was hospitalized for a month. It was a very, very serious situation.
Out of the hospital and danger, I am rehabbing nicely and am awaiting the construction and fitting of partial dentures. I was unable to speak clearly for a long time, necessitating the hiatus from broadcast production.
For security reasons, I did not disclose this when undergoing treatment–there are those elements who wish me ill and I didn’t think it prudent to be completely candid, under the circumstances.
I will be resuming program production very shortly. Until I have mastered my “new chops” and can speak without an impediment, the programs will consist of relevant excerpts of the old Archive Shows with introductions to be read by guest personalities. This material will be new to the overwhelming majority of listeners.
I will also be producing on-air interviews with guests, with surrogate interviewers posing questions which I will compose.
As soon as I am able, I will be back on the air in person. I do not think this will take very long, but, never having traveled down this particular road, can’t say for absolute sure.
I have driven myself relentlessly forward for more than three decades and am committed to the effort. Nonetheless, being in my sixties, I will be taking more time to “smell the flowers,” so to speak.
From the feedback I’ve gotten over the years, it has become apparent that many (if not most) of the listeners do not understand the truly Spartan and Herculean nature of my effort over the years. I will be sustaining that effort, but will be a little kinder to myself.
