ILM's Favorite Band/Musician!

based on bands for whom ILXors go apeshit (based on number of posts/threads, etc.) i'm keeping this poll open for a relatively short period of time, because I know that (a) it'll probably be woefully incomplete (i'm working off memory & i haven't been around much these past few years plus my lack of familiarity with some genres (read: NOIZE), so please use the comments to make your case about any band or musician that you think that I unfairly excluded if you're so inclined); and (b) in light of (a), i may do a 2nd & improved thread (so look at this thread as a work in progress). anyway, enjoy and VOTE!

the beatles & the velvet underground are kind of questionable -- b/c i don't think that either has a lot of threads relative to their fame & purported influence -- but i didn't feel comfortable leaving either off the poll, either.

anyway, have at it!

Eisbaer, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 04:31 (nineteen years ago)

also, it may be good to separate joy division out from new order -- for obvious reasons, though, i kind of lump them together.

Eisbaer, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 06:24 (nineteen years ago)

i also thought about MIA ... and dizzee rascal, for that matter -- but aren't both kinda, like, so 2-3 years ago? i know that there's an MIA thread out there now, but otherwise do ILXors really go apeshit over her anymore?

Eisbaer, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 06:26 (nineteen years ago)

You're right - the whole ILM buzz was only before their (Lily Allen, MIA, Sov, etc) albums came out and it's been gone ever since.

speaking of Missy... TIMBALAND, people.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 06:55 (nineteen years ago)

missy, yes. abba, timbaland, and björk -- strong consider (abba and björk again in the "does anyone STILL talk about them much on ILX?" category, plus timbaland is a producer).

as for "dustiness" -- the list is about whom ILX talks about the most, whether they haven't released anything in decades or they just released something yesterday.

Eisbaer, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 07:01 (nineteen years ago)

UH did you see that bjork clusterfuck?!?!?!1

You're ignoring a sizable R.E.M. fanboy and ex-fanboy section (ok, it's perpetua, tim ellison, me and a coupla others, but still).

How could you go to all the trouble of making this poll and leave off the Dan? Don't you read this board?

iago g., Wednesday, 30 May 2007 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

What about Gay Dad?

StanM, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 10:07 (nineteen years ago)

Out of these, Depeche Mode. And, not that I would have picked any of them over Depeche Mode, but there are lots of typical 80s acts that you have missed, and that a very large audience on ILM.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Where is Dismemberment Plan? Annie From Norway? teddybears shtml? Margaret Berger? Sally Shapiro?

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

and where oh where is Belle and Sebastian?

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

This poll probably should be just B&S and Steely Dan, that's the entire board covered.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

ILM has no love the 60's Stones? the Rolling Stones (1964-1972)

nicky lo-fi, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

Most ILMers would take "No Limit" by 2 Unlimited over the Rolling Stones (1964-1972) any day.

But not me.

i actually have a hard time thinking of an artist i would call "my favorite" since i mostly think in terms of songs, but when i'm given the question i mostly answer "Dylan" or something canonical like that. the real answer would probably be Tom Moulton, i think.

When did Bob Dylan die? OK about The Beach Boys (although Mike Love and Brian Wilson are still alive, albeit not neccessarily in excellent condition).

But I still think The Lex needs to read his lesson a bit better here ;)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 22:37 (nineteen years ago)
