If not, then what? Other than GNR please.

I'll go on the record as saying I think Crazy Train is a total dud of a song.

Can I get a boring and trivial question out of the way?
Which CD edition of the first 2 Ozzy records do I buy if I want to avoid the rerecorded parts? Would that only be the initial editions with the blocky red Columbia lettering on the spine?

Also I think the guitar riff is kind of dumb - "jiggajiggaJUHjiggajiggaJUHjiggajiggaJUHjiggajiggaJUHHHHHHH"

but we're not talking guitarists -- but guitar. well then, anything off Damaged and/or My War.
OTM. In fact let's narrow that down to side B of My War.

agreed.

My War is awesome, but so is Randy Rhoades. He only played one solo, but it was a good one. I could say the same thing about Greg Ginn, actually. Two guitar players who played the shit out of very unusual scales (harmonic minor/phrygian for Rhoades, and diminished for Ginn, though there's a lot more blues in Ginn).

process of weeding out, yeah

I feel like Ginn corrupted my way of playing leads forever. I can't shake him.

Wouldn't most fans say Hot for Teacher instead? Jump doesn't strike me as a very guitar-oriented track. I'm not a big Van Halen person though, so...
Yeah, I'm really interested in particular tracks, rather than 'guitarists' per say. Obviously I'm into the Rhodes, but I'm an 80s rookie. I was listening to George Michael at the time.
Regarding 'My War' from allmusic.com:
a pretentious mess of a record with a totally worthless second side. Featuring three tracks of slower-than-Black Sabbath muck with Henry Rollins howling like a caged animal, it was self-indulgence masquerading as inspiration and about as much fun as wading through a tar pit.
That's kind of funny. Anyway, can you suggest a particular track to a Black Flag novice?
― humansuit, Thursday, 24 May 2007 21:52 (sixteen years ago) link
Just from My War?
Side A- "I Can't Decide" (actually fairly driving) Side B- "Scream" (Slower than death)

On the subject of crazy train just stumbled across this and thought I might share. This guitarist is Zakk Wylde. Pretty damn good if I may say so.

if you want punk rock flag and not sludge flag (both are awesome!) "depression" off of damaged is unquestionably one of the raddest things ever
― pretzel walrus, Thursday, 24 May 2007 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link
"Jump" was me being facetious. It's all synthesizer.
And the best versions of the Ozzy records to get are the ones where the album art is smaller and surrounded by a color matte (blue for Blizzard, green for Diary).

Thanks, Jeff.

When I said I'm not into Van Halen, I really meant I'm not into Van Halen. I've never listened to that whole song. I assumed it had a solo somewhere.
― humansuit, Friday, 25 May 2007 01:44 (sixteen years ago) link
It does have a guitar solo - a short one.
