Being generous I'd say the Stretch Orchestra sound alright, Dan Mangan is a fine young man and I've never knowingly heard the Sheepdogs so maybe they are good. The local paper thought it was an upset that Nickelback won nothing.

They are quite good actually. Seen them two or three times by chance at festivals or whatever (5+ years ago tho) but never listened to their recordings. Kinda like a folky Pixies iirc.

No, the Junos aren't a joke. They're a marketing tool, and in many of the non-televised categories a Juno win is an enormous career boost. Russell Peters on the other hand is the fucking worst.

No, they don't. But the East Pointers and the Okavango African Orchestra and A Tribe Called Red and Mandroid Echostar do. And to those acts a Juno win means a significant boost in the quality of the gigs they score and their asking price.

Fuckin' Tribe Called Red have been raking in Junos for four years now. They were designed by a CBC focus group.
