Trouble & Bass - Drop the Lime / Math Head / + crew

this stuff is pretty fun .... not easy to fit into a slot. super-low wobbly bass workouts, electro chop-ups of crunk + pop hits, 808 State era rave, dubby grime type stuff. mainly the two tracks that 20jazzfunkgreats put up recently made me investigate - Drop the Lime's "Come 2 Life" and the insane DTL remix of Math Head's "Drop It" which is an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink-plus-rave-sirens crazy cluster bomb.

search:
Brick / Slamdance 12" - could def. imagine somebody like Wiley ripping the "Brick" beat
Party Crashers Unite "Ballers" (off Bass Bandits EP) - rap acappella loop that I should probably recognize over bmore club type beats and a stuttering Star Wars (?!) horn sample
DTL "Just Pump It!" mix - free on the T&B blog ... mostly old school ravey sounding stuff

discus~!

(and yeah just to get it out of the way their blog looks like an edition of Blue States Lose and the lastnightsparty dude is on there)

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 14:35 (seventeen years ago) link

no not really

that's kinda why I ignored this stuff at first, I thought he sounded like kid606

from acid girls here's a better list of all the artists on this thing

"Trouble & Bass is a label and crew which are made up of the pack of producers and DJs including: Drop the Lime, Math Head, Passions (whom you've previously gotten word of our fanciful feelings for), Star Eyes, Zach Shadetek, Starkey and Curses!"

Passions has a 12 on kitsune

this link is still active too (scroll down)

that Curses song is pretty sweet

I didn't know it by name but it's on one of the DTL mixes I've been listening to

possibly the Synthetic Magazine mix off their blog .... which I have to decline to fully endorse since it has a cutup version of Justice vs Simian on there and I never really need to hear that song again in any form :<

haha yeah pretty much

but I think these guys bring a little more to the table as far as original / wacky production and sense of humor so it rises above all thse mixes that are wall to wall ed banger and kitsune

when I bought the Bass Bandits record the clerk was like "do you have all these hollertronix 12's?" and suggesting mash-up records and I was kinda appalled. but I dunno, this stuff seems better than that.

they did put out zongamin though

dmr, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:22 (seventeen years ago) link

people who hate on this stuff unreservedly deserve to choke on their 15 minute vocal-free "re-edits"

strongohulkington, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:23 (seventeen years ago) link

that said, much of it is ass

xpost

I had to look up that wiki a few days ago after I overheard someone shitting on the new a-trak mixtape ... "who wants to hear crunk acappellas over a bunch of fucking blog house, dude"

dmr, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:26 (seventeen years ago) link

hating on switch / solid groove is definitely throwing out the baby with the bathwater

Is Trouble & Bass the new Tigerbeat6 sublabel?

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:30 (seventeen years ago) link

it's Drop the Lime's label / party / crew ... not sure if they are (financially) tg6 related

dmr, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:34 (seventeen years ago) link

tb6 I mean

dmr, Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

No I was thinking of Tigerbass.

I still like the Shockout singles actually, although TBH Drop The Lime's tend to be my least favorite.

as far as tracks by them I haven't heard that much new lately. there was a new DTL song on 20jazzfunkgreats the other day. "Mandeer Hunted." it's ok.

dmr, Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

Drop The Lime did a set on /rupture's WFMU show. It was alright.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I am sort of bitter towards that Bass Bandits EP for making me like a Shakira song (one of the tracks they use the digi horns from Hips Don't Lie)
