Rolling FM Radio Station DJ/Staff Thread 2007

I've never seen a thread on here solely for radio folks, and I know there are a bunch besides me. Here is a place where we can gossip about our industry. No call letters need be mentioned!

Currently I do a drivetime slot (4-6 PM) at a CORE station (which I gather is CMJ's "Top 25 College Stations" or somethin'). It is part of a state university. We have recently switched to some spooky all-computer-monitored tracking service which determines our Top 30 and I would like to know more about that if people have info. My favorite recent promo was the Indian Jewelry CD. When I was 20 I did a 2-6 AM show for a whole semester. I once spilled an entire beer into the console of an FM station, the fuse blew but it was otherwise undamaged. I do not recommend this.

Tell me about your station! Also I would like people's thoughts on these new streaming-based rules that restrict how many cuts from a given album you can play within a certain time period...

I was gonna respond but I realized I had nothing to do with the radio industry.

Oh damnit.

too late.

I work for an FM Sports Talk station. Half of my day is spent producing commercials and liners as well as some editing, and the other half is spent producing our afternoon show.

One other streaming issue that still gets me is that we can't play national spots or any commercial that utilizes something from our music library (like something from Killer Tracks.) I really don't pay that much attention to our web broadcast, but it is frustrating to have to run two clocks during one shift: One for airplay and one for the damn web with PSA's and dry promos running over our regular spots.

I did a 2-6 shift for two semesters in college. Even when I was made Chief Announcer and could've assigned myself a sweeter shift, I stuck with it not only because it appeared humble, but I just dug being in there by myself and enjoyed the night. Also, the looser FCC rules as well as having guests in the studio was all right as well.

Also, I'd probably be in a better paying profession had it not been for this album cover:

i worked the afternoon shift at a small town station. country on fm and news, talk, sports, oldies, funeral announcements, ag reports, etc. after almost a year of hating the job i realized i needed to go back and finish college. before that i was involved in the college radio. i would still love to work at a community based station.
